Enhanced energy coupling by using structured nano-wire targets
We have investigated the interaction of ultra intense laser light with a carbon nanotube (CNT) target. The experimental results show an increased electron acceleration and a very low laser reflection as compared to non-structured targets.

Efficient guiding and focusing of intense laser pulse using periodic thin slits
Slits have been widely used in laser–plasma interactions as plasma optical components for generating high-harmonic light and controlling laser-driven particle beams. Here, we propose and demonstrate that periodic thin slits can be regarded as a new breed

Effect of the Laser Wave Front in a Laser-Plasma Accelerator
A high-repetition rate electron source is generated by tightly focusing kHz, few-mJ laser pulses into an underdense plasma. This high-intensity laser-plasma interaction leads to stable electron beams over several hours but with strikingly complex ...

Real-time bremsstrahlung detector as a monitoring tool for laser–plasma proton acceleration
Real-time evaluation of laser-driven byproducts is crucial for state-of-the-art facilities operating at high repetition rates. This work presents real-time measurements of hard X-rays (bremsstrahlung radiation) generated from the interaction of high ...

Efficiency of radiation friction losses in laser-driven ‘hole boring’ of dense targets
In the interaction of laser pulses of extreme intensity (>10 ^23 Wcm ^−2 ) with high-density, thick plasma targets, simulations show significant radiation friction losses, in contrast to thin targets for which such losses are negligible.

Beam profiles of proton and carbon ions in the relativistic transparency regime
Ion acceleration from relativistic laser solid interactions has been of particular interest over the last decade. While beam profiles have been studied for target normal sheath acceleration (TNSA), such profiles have yet to be described for other ...

Laser Plasma Interactions in Hohlraums [PDF]
Lasers plasma instabilities are an important constraint in x-ray driven inertial confinement fusion. In hohlraums irradiated with 1.06 {mu}m light on the Shiva laser, plasma instabilities were extremely deleterious, driving the program to the use of shorter wavelength light. Excellent coupling has been achieved in hohlraums driven with 0.35 {mu}m light
