Laser beam shaping: properties and applications

2020
The field of laser beam shaping advances the study of optics by pushing the limits of structured light and its applications. This thesis aims to exploit classical optical theory using state of the art structuring techniques to introduce two novel demonstrations: (1) high-speed digital micro-mirror device (DMD) light shaping and (2) broadband dual ...

Beam shaping laser with controllable gain

Applied Physics B, 2017
We propose a novel intra-cavity laser beam shaping technique based on the manipulation of the transverse gain profile in the laser crystal. The method allows controllable reshaping of a laser output beam into a desired beam profile. Two laser diodes were used to pump the crystal and to create a desirable pump beam profile.

Laser beam shaping by double tailoring

SPIE Proceedings, 2005
In several previous publications we have outlined how a freeform optical surface can be tailored to achieve a desired irradiance on a reference surface. The shape of the surface is determined by numerically solving a differential equation. This approach has the advantage of being able to accommodate a huge amount of detail, equivalent to several ...

Laser beam shaping and packaging system

SPIE Proceedings, 2012
This paper presents a semiconductor laser beam shaping system, that can collimate the irradiance profile effectively and package the laser diode(LD) at the same time. Due to the semiconductor LD is a kind of line source, a particular ellipsoidal lens is designed after both the fast-axis and the slow-axis of the laser beam analyzed.

Gaussian laser beam profile shaping

Optical Engineering, 1996
A method for converting single-mode Gaussian beams into beams with uniform irradiance profiles is described. The design is based on a Fourier transform relation between the input and output beam functions. The efficacy of the solution is shown to depend on a parameter that contains the product of the widths of the input and output beams.

Why laser beam shape matters

PhotonicsViews
AbstractLaser beam shaping refers to the process of altering the spatial distribution of a laser beam's intensity to achieve a desired irradiance profile at a target plane. This manipulation is an essential step in ensuring the beam's characteristics align with the specific requirements of the application.

Theory and techniques for laser beam shaping

ICALEO 2001: Proceedings of the Laser Materials Processing Conference and Laser Microfabrication Conference, 2001
Many basic experiments as well as industrial and military applications require laser beams that have specified shape or irradiance profile. A common requirement is a laser profile that is uniform over some cross-section. Such applications include laser/material processing, laser material interaction studies, fiber injection systems, optical data/image ...
