A multi-photon magneto-optical trap

open access: yes, 2009
We demonstrate a Magneto-Optical Trap (MOT) configuration which employs optical forces due to light scattering between electronically excited states of the atom.

Theoretical Study on Cryogen Spray Cooling in Laser Treatment of Ota’s Nevus: Comparison and Optimization of R134a, R404A and R32

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Cryogen spray cooling (CSC) could be applied clinically for the laser therapy of Ota’s nevus, a dermal hyperplastic pigmented disease with a morbidity rate of 0.1–0.6% in the Asian population.

Remark on laser linewidth hazard in opto-mechanical cooling

open access: yes, 2008
I discuss the robustness of the pumped cavity dynamics against phase diffusion of the laser and conclude that opto-mechanical cooling has extreme sensitivity compared to laser cooling of atoms. Certain proposals of ground state opto-mechanical cooling by

Injection locking of a low cost high power laser diode at 461 nm [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Stable laser sources at 461 nm are important for optical cooling of strontium atoms. In most existing experiments this wavelength is obtained by frequency doubling infrared lasers, since blue laser diodes either have low power or large emission ...

Laser Cooling of Radium Ions [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2019
The unstable radium nucleus is appealing for probing new physics due to its high mass, octupole deformation and energy level structure. Ion traps, with long hold times and low particle numbers, are excellent for work with radioactive species, such as radium and radium-based molecular ions, where low activity, and hence low total numbers, is desirable ...

Observation of recoil-induced resonances and electromagnetically induced absorption of cold atoms in diffuse light

open access: yes, 2009
In this paper we report an experiment on the observation of the recoil-induced resonances (RIR) and electromagnetically induced absorption (EIA) of cold Rb87 atoms in diffuse light. The pump light of the RIR and the EIA comes from the diffuse light in an

Determination of CaOH and CaOCH3 vibrational branching ratios for direct laser cooling and trapping

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2019
Alkaline earth monoalkoxide free radicals (MORs) have molecular properties conducive to direct laser cooling to sub-millikelvin temperatures. Using dispersed laser induced fluorescence measurements from a pulsed supersonic molecular beam source we ...

Cryogenically cooled 946nm Nd:YAG laser [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Solid-State Lasers Congress, 2013
We present the first multi-Watt demonstration of a diode pumped cryogenically cooled neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) laser operating at 946 nm on the (4)F(3/2) → (4)I(9/2) transition. 3.8 W of continuous wave output power for 12.8 W of absorbed pump was obtained with a slope efficiency of 47%.
