Laser based smart displacement sensor

SIcon/01. Sensors for Industry Conference. Proceedings of the First ISA/IEEE. Sensors for Industry Conference (Cat. No.01EX459), 2002
The paper presents a displacement measuring system based on one optical emitter (laser diode), two optical sensors and on a smart structure used for sensor data processing. The system is designed around the PIC16F877 8-bit microcontroller that powers the sensors, acquires data from the sensors and performs the intelligent processing based on a neural ...

Development of a small-size laser triangulation displacement sensor and temperature drift compensation method

Measurement science and technology, 2021
In practical applications, some special working scenarios need to take into account both narrow space and extreme temperature, which puts more strict requirements on the size and temperature adaptability of the laser triangulation displacement sensor ...

Laser displacement sensor with application to gravitational radiation detection

Applied Optics, 1980
The principles of operation of a novel laser displacement sensor are described. The intended application of the sensor is to measure displacements induced by gravitational radiation. The laser sensor is composed of three coupled cavities, defined by two laser mirrors and the mirrors of a Fabry-Perot etalon placed inside the laser cavity.

Measuring leg ulcers using a laser displacement sensor

Physiological Measurement, 1994
A non-contact method for the measurement of a skin ulcer's area and volume has been developed. A commercially available laser displacement sensor is scanned across the ulcer's surface to produce a displacement image. From this image the healthy normal skin's surface is reconstructed and the area and volume found.

Investigation into the intergranular corrosion behaviour of electron beam welded Hastelloy C-276 sheet using laser displacement sensor

Measurement, 2019
The laser displacement sensor scan technique proposed in the present study helps to calculate the corrosion rate (CR), and subsequently, determine the susceptibility to intergranular corrosion, without preparing separate samples for the weld zone (WZ ...

Modification of displacement signals collected by laser sensors

2009 9th International Conference on Electronic Measurement & Instruments, 2009
Laser displacement sensors are highly-frequent used instrument for dynamic response measurement in wind tunnel tests. The fundamental performances of three types of laser sensors used in wind tunnel laboratory are introduced, and several factors for influencing precision are reviewed.

Temperature Compensation of Laser Triangular Displacement Sensor

2019 Chinese Automation Congress (CAC), 2019
The measurement precision of the laser triangulation displacement sensor will be decreased with temperature, its application areas have been restricted for a long time. Three main factors affecting measurement accuracy were analyzed and two algorithms were proposed in this paper to compensate for the temperature error.

Surface profile measurement using a laser displacement sensor

open access: yes, 2008
A three dimensional surface profiling system was developed by integrating a Confocal laser displacement sensor with a X-Y scanning stage. The system allowed to scan a sample point by point over a selected area. For each point on the sample X, Y and Z values were collected.

Integration of vision and laser displacement sensor for efficient and precise digitizing

Proceedings of 1994 IEEE International Conference on MFI '94. Multisensor Fusion and Integration for Intelligent Systems, 1996
This paper presents a new digitizing technique which integrates computer vision methods, such as the photometric stereo approach, with the laser displacement sensors (LDS). The curvature at each point of the surface can be measured cost-effectively by the photometric stereo approach.
