Fractional-Order Modeling of a Multistable Erbium-Doped Fiber Laser
We propose a novel mathematical model of a multistable erbium-doped fiber laser based on Caputo fractional derivative equations. The model is used to investigate how the laser dynamics evolve as the derivative order is varied.

Surface plasma resonance in small rare gas clusters by mixing IR and VUV laser pulses
The ionization dynamics of a Xenon cluster with 40 atoms is analyzed under a pum p probe scenario of laser pulses where an infrared laser pulse of 50 fs length follows with a well defined time delay a VUV pulse of the same length and peak intensity.

Controlled Shock Shells and Intracluster Fusion Reactions in the Explosion of Large Clusters
The ion phase-space dynamics in the Coulomb explosion of very large ($\sim 10^6 - 10^7$ atoms) deuterium clusters can be tailored using two consecutive laser pulses with different intensities and an appropriate time delay.

Ultrafast myoglobin structural dynamics observed with an X-ray free-electron laser
Light absorption can trigger biologically relevant protein conformational changes. The light-induced structural rearrangement at the level of a photoexcited chromophore is known to occur in the femtosecond timescale and is expected to propagate through ...

On-chip petahertz electronics for single-shot phase detection
Attosecond science has demonstrated that electrons can be controlled on the sub-cycle time scale of an optical waveform, paving the way towards optical frequency electronics.

Ultrafast magnetization dynamics induced by femtosecond laser pulses have been measured in ferrimagnetic Co0.8Gd0.2, Co.74Tb.26 and Co.86Tb.14 alloys. Using element sensitivity of X-ray magnetic circular dichroism at the Co L3, Tb M5 and Gd M5 edges we ...

Multiple Ionization Bursts in Laser-Driven Hydrogen Molecular Ion
Theoretical study on H$_2^+$ in an intense infrared laser field on the attosecond time-scale reveals that the molecular ion shows multiple bursts of ionization within a half-cycle of the laser field oscillation, in contrast to the widely accepted tunnel ...
