Fluorescent Microscopy of Hot Spots Induced by Laser Heating of Iron Oxide Nanoparticles

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
Determination of the iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) local temperature during laser heating is important in the aspect of laser phototherapy. We have carried out theoretical modeling of IONPs local electromagnetic (EM) field enhancement and heating ...

Laser heating of an aqueous aerosol particle [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Optics, 1984
Approximate analytical and full numerical solutions are obtained for the transient response of both a pure water and solution droplets to both short- and long-time laser heating. The differences in the temperature and size histories between pure water and solution droplets are elucidated. The validity of of the approximate analytical solution, extended

Laser-assisted machining of Inconel 718 with carbide and ceramic inserts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Laser assisted machining (LAM) can improve the machinability of materials by locally heating the material prior to its removal. The work presented here is a study of the laser assisted machining of Inconel 718 (NiCr19FeNb at 46 HRc) with carbide and ...

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Hot-Wire Laser-Directed Energy Deposition: Process Characteristics and Benefits of Resistive Pre-Heating of the Feedstock Wire

open access: yesMetals, 2021
This study investigates the influence of resistive pre-heating of the feedstock wire (here called hot-wire) on the stability of laser-directed energy deposition of Duplex stainless steel.

Investigation into laser re-melting of inconel 625 HVOF coating blended with WC [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
High velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spraying of Diamalloy 1005 powders mixed with WC particles onto steel (304) is considered and laser re-melting of the resulting coatings is examined.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Combined Plasma and Laser Heating of Graphite

open access: yesPlasma
This paper investigates a novel combined laser and plasma heating test technique. Integrating the 1.5 kW Raycus RFL-C1500 laser source into the VGU-4 Inductively Coupled Plasma Facility (IPMech RAS) allowed the study of fine-grain MPG-7 graphite ablation

Laser-Heating Effects in Laser-Induced Plating.

open access: yesJournal of the Japan Society for Precision Engineering, 1991
This paper describes the effects of laser heating on the electroless plating process. In the experiment, a focused YAG laser beam and a copper electroless plating solution were used. In the analysis, the temperature distribution was calculated by the solution of the heat conduction equation.

Energy efficiency contributions and losses during selective laser melting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Selective Laser Melting technique, SLM, requires remelting of adjacent tracks to avoid cavities and other imperfections. Usually, very conservative process parameters are chosen to avoid imperfections, resulting in a low building rate.
