INTERACTION OF LASER BEAMS WITH A PLASMA

Mathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences, 2009
In this paper, we construct a model for the propagation of two laser beams in a plasma. The originality of our model lies in the fact that it is valid uniformly in terms of the angle between both beams while it is not the case for standard models. In a simplified case we show that the solution converges towards the solution of the classical ones for ...

Characterization of laser plasmas for interaction studies

Physical Review E, 1994
Long scale length plasmas were produced by uniform laser irradiation from opposite sides of metal disks coated on thin plastic stripe targets. The plasma became fully underdense before the end of the 600-ps pulse. The evolution of the plasma was carefully characterized both in electron density and temperature, and the experimental data were compared to

Laser–plasma interactions

Physics Bulletin, 1979
Despite the thought of inclement January weather in the depths of North Wales, more than 60 people attended The Institute of Physics meeting on laser–plasma interactions at the University College of North Wales, Bangor, held on 4–5 January 1979. Such a large attendance of essentially British research groups, with a small French and US contingent ...

Plasma hydrodynamics of the intense laser - cluster interaction

Applications of High Field and Short Wavelength Sources IX, 2001
We present a one-dimensional hydrodynamic model of the intense laser-cluster interaction in which the laser field is treated self-consistently. We find that for clusters initially as small as approximately 25 A in radius nonuniform expansion of the heated material results in long-time resonance of the laser field at the critical density plasma layer.
