Two topics are reviewed: laser generation of homogeneous plasmas with prescribed density and laser induced high amplitude electron plasma waves. A special emphasis is put on various forms of stimulated Raman scattering. Applications to elementary particle acceleration are discussed.

Interaction Of A Weakly-nonlinear Laser pulse with a plasma
IEEE Conference Record - Abstracts. 1992 IEEE International Conference on Plasma, 1992Based on a one-dimensional model, a perturbation expansion is carried out to solve the equations describing a weakly nonlinear laser pulse in a plasma in which the electrons are treated relativistically and the plasma frequency is much less than the laser frequency.

2010
The purpose of the present chapter is to give an introduction into the physics of laser plasma interactions that govern the coupling of laser energy into the matter. Processes induced by laser pulses of nano- and femtosecond durations are discussed in the framework of different applications.

Refraction effects in laser-plasma interaction
Optics Communications, 1988Abstract Refraction effects on a laser beam focused into a low density plasma have been studied. Density gradients were assumed to be radial and axially symmetric around the beam axis, as they usually appear in laser produced plasmas. Simple conditions for significant ray bending have been obtained.

Interaction of laser plasma bunches
Soviet Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1991An experimental investigation was made of the interaction between two plasma bunches expanding in vacuum (p≤10−4 Torr). The spatial structure of the radiation emitted by the interacting plasma bunches was determined. The radiation was in the form of spectral lines due to the Be I-III ions and it was found that the radiation emitted by ions with a given

Interaction of terawatt laser with plasma
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1997Abstract Experimental investigations on interactions of a terawatt laser (0.5–2.5 TW) wth an underdense plasma are reported. Formation of self-channeling longer than the vacuum Rayleigh length is observed when ultrashort (100 fs in FWHM) high power (∼ 2 TW) laser pulses are focused into a gas (He, Ar, N 2 ) filled chamber.

Diagnostics of Laser-Plasma Interactions
2013The field of laser-plasma diagnostics is large, and is certainly too big to be covered fully in a short article. Here, we concentrate on a number of diagnostics which are of relevance to two areas of significant current interest, namely (1) relativistic laser-plasma interactions, and (2) hohlraum-driven inertial confinement fusion.

Relativistic Laser-Plasma Interactions
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2009Ever since the much acclaimed paper of Akhiezer and Polovin [367], plasma theorists have been attempting to comprehend complex dynamics related to the propagation of high and ultra-high intensity electromagnetic (EM) radiation through a plasma.
