Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Alumina: Effects of Scanning Strategies on External and Internal Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates how scanning strategies affect pure alumina in laser powder bed fusion. Linear 45° scanning yields uniform surfaces but high porosity, while the island‐concentric strategy provides higher density with through‐holes favorable for infiltration. Findings highlight pathways toward optimizing defect‐free alumina parts.

A C0(_2) laser lattice experiment for cold atoms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This thesis presents work on a laser cooling experiment designed for trapping Rb atoms in a CO(_2) laser optical trap. Some emphasis is placed on experimental features designed to allow the future implementation of a neutral atom quantum computation ...

Approach for advanced working distance monitoring and control capability in laser metal deposition processing for additive manufacturing

open access: yes, 2023
The working distance is an essential parameter of the laser metal deposition (LMD) process which has to be kept at a constant level for successful applications.

Carboxylic‐Acid Functionalized Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube‐Alkane‐Based Resistive Temperature Sensor for Cold Chain Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a reversible temperature sensor with high switching ratio, ∼103. The device is fabricated using PET‐ITO and carbon nanotube dispersions in alkane. Considering its application in cold chain logistics, a proof‐of‐concept with LED is showcased. Thus, a temperature drop below the threshold temperature (crystallization temperature of the

A Novel Frequency Stabilization Method for External Cavity Diode Lasers Based on PZT Modulation

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal
The method of frequency stabilization using injection current modulation can cause mode hopping in the laser. It also fails to fully utilize the benefits of PZT modulation for narrowing the laser linewidth.

Dual-mode temperature compensation technique for laser stabilization to a crystalline whispering gallery mode resonator.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2012
Frequency stabilization of a diode laser locked to a whispering gallery mode (WGM) reference resonator made of a MgF2 single crystal is demonstrated. The strong thermal dependence of the difference frequency between two orthogonally polarized TE an TM ...

Sub-Doppler modulation spectroscopy of potassium for laser stabilization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We study modulation spectroscopy of the potassium D2 transitions at 766.7 nm. The vapour pressure, controlled by heating a commercial reference cell, is first optimized using conventional saturated absorption spectroscopy.

On the Lightweight Potential of Laser Additive Manufactured NiTi Triply Periodic Minimal Sheet Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the lightweight potential of laser additive‐manufactured NiTi triply periodic minimal surface sheet lattices. It systematically investigates the effects of relative density and unit cell size on surface quality, deformation recovery, compression behavior, and energy absorption.

Excited state spatial distributions in a cold strontium gas [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This thesis describes the development of a new technique for measuring the spatial distribution of Rydberg atoms in a cold strontium gas. Strontium atoms are cooled and trapped in a magneto-optical trap and coherently excited to Rydberg states in a two ...
