Frequency Stabilization of a Gas Laser

Applied Optics, 1969
The frequency of a gas laser was stabilized by making use of the competition between the oppositely circularly polarized components of a single cavity mode of a laser in an axial magnetic field. For appropriate transitions the coupling between the polarizations leads to a sharp crossover in their intensities as the cavity is tuned across the center of ...

Momentum gaps and laser stability

Journal of Applied Physics, 1993
The impact of a momentum gap on the stability of a semiconductor laser is examined. We identify a condition which, when satisfied, suppresses the first order perturbation on both the intensity and the phase of such a laser. The same condition also provides a uniform intensity envelope in the laser cavity.

Ellipsometry with a stabilized Zeeman laser

Applied Optics, 1990
A novel ellipsometric method was introduced in an earlier publication, based on a rotating plane polarized beam. We show that the method is substantially improved by using a stabilized Zeeman laser as the light source.

Stabilized Biasing of Semiconductor Lasers

Bell System Technical Journal, 1983
In this paper we analyze the design of biasing and control circuits for semiconductor lasers in a generalized context based on an idealized laser characteristic. In particular, we address three major design considerations: whether to bias the laser above or below threshold, how to stabilize the optical output levels independent of variation in the ...

Frequency stability of a Zeeman-stabilized laser

Applied Optics, 1985
The frequency of a commercial hard-sealed He–Ne laser has been stabilized to the center of the discharge gain profile using the mode splitting caused by an axial magnetic field. The absolute frequency has been measured repeatedly during intermittent operation over 20 months. Its drift over most of this period has been 2.6 ± 0.7 MHz/yr.

10-15-level laser stabilization down to fiber thermal noise limit using self-homodyne detection.

Optics Letters
We demonstrate a self-homodyne detection method to stabilize a continuous-wave 1550-nm laser to a 1-km optical fiber delay line, achieving a frequency instability of 6.3 × 10-15 at a 16-ms averaging time.

Frequency stability and stabilization of a chemical laser

IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1978
We have built a low-power CW HF/DF chemical laser, designed to achieve high-frequency stability. Measurements are reported which characterize the instantaneous spectral width of the laser output to less than one part in 1011( \Delta\nu kHz) and the variations in absolute frequency of this emission with time to four parts in 1010( \Delta\nu = \pm20 kHz)
