Chemotherapy for Spinal Cord Intramedullary Pediatric Low‐Grade Glioma—A Systematic Literature Review

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric intramedullary low‐grade gliomas (PIMLGGs) are rare neoplasms that present unique clinical and management challenges. Although surgery remains the primary tool for tissue diagnosis and decompression, complete gross‐total resection is frequently unfeasible due to the infiltrative nature of these lesions.

Predictive Scores for Late-Onset Neonatal Sepsis as an Early Diagnostic and Antimicrobial Stewardship Tool: What Have We Done So Far?

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2022
Background: Late-onset neonatal sepsis (LOS) represents a significant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, and early diagnosis remains a challenge. Various ‘sepsis scores’ have been developed to improve early identification. The aim of the current

Risk Factor Analysis for Late-onset Neonatal Hyperbilirubinemia in Taiwanese Infants

open access: yesPediatrics and Neonatology, 2009
Neonatal hyperbilirubinemia is a recognized health risk for newborns. It can cause kernicterus and hearing impairment. Certain groups of infants who do not have significant jaundice during the first few days of life develop hyperbilirubinemia later ...

Efficacy and Safety of Tacrolimus Therapy for a Single Chinese Cohort With Very-Late-Onset Myasthenia Gravis

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2022
Background and PurposePrevious studies have found tacrolimus to be a favorable drug for treating different types of myasthenia gravis (MG), but few have focused on very-late-onset MG (VLOMG). This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of tacrolimus for

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...
