Survival of Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Comprehensive Study on the Impact of Early versus Late Onset and Its Determinants

open access: yesJurnal Penyakit Dalam Indonesia
Introduction. The prognosis for patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) is generally poor because most cases are diagnosed at an advanced stage. Several studies indicate that HCC is more prevalent and has a worse prognosis among younger individuals.

The heterodimeric amino acid transporters (HAT) of the SLC7/SLC3 family: A structure−function relationships and relevance to human pathology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heterodimeric amino acid transporters consist of SLC7 and SLC3 family proteins arranged in a conserved structural organization. They regulate nutrient transport across cell membranes, supporting essential cellular functions. These transporters also contribute to xenobiotic/drug uptake and distribution.

Membrane composition and thermodynamic identity as boundaries of life for synthetic cell research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
What makes a cell a cell? The boundary of a living cell is not just a wall. Read as a Markov blanket, the membrane separates internal from external states, generating identity and non‐equilibrium order. Can this identity be rebuilt from scratch in a synthetic cell?

A case of late-onset oligomeganephronia

open access: yesJornal Brasileiro de Nefrologia, 2012
A 33-year old caucasian man was investigated for pain in the right flank, proteinuria, hemathuria and an elevated serum creatinine level. He also presented an abnormal ultrasonography, which revealed asymmetric kidneys. Through renal biopsy, the diagnosis of oligomeganephronia (OMN) was confirmed.

The Epidemiology of Late-onset Schizophrenia [PDF]

open access: yesSchizophrenia Bulletin, 1993
We report an analysis of a large catchment area sample of patients with nonaffective functional psychoses presenting across all ages at onset. The male:female ratio was 1.56:1 in the 16-25-year age group; it reached unity around 30 years of age and declined to 0.38:1 in the 66-75-year group. Contrary to expectation, a higher proportion of patients with

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Prevalence of the ADAMTS-13 missense mutation R1060W in late onset adult thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura

open access: yes, 2008
Background: Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is most commonly associated with deficiency or inhibition of von Willebrand factor-cleaving protease (ADAMTS-13) activity.

Neutrophil Gelatinase Associated Lipocalin Levels in Normal Pregnancy and Preeclampsia Subtypes

open access: yesAndalas Obstetrics and Gynecology Journal
Background: Preeclampsia is still a major cause of morbidity and mortality in pregnant women. Neutrophil gelatinase–associated lipocalin (NGAL) is a better biomarker than creatinine as a biomarker of kidney disorders and is considered as an accurate ...

Late onset schizophrenia: a review

open access: yesPsychiatry and Clinical Psychopharmacology, 2021
A consensus was reached by International Late Onset Schizophrenia Group that cases in which onset occurs between 40 and 60 be called late onset schizophrenia and that cases in which onset occurs after age 60 should be called very late onset ...

Late onset postpartum psychoses [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Women's Mental Health, 2016
It has been known since the eighteenth century that postpartum psychoses can begin several weeks after childbirth, not during the first fortnight. There are almost 400 non-organic episodes in the literature, starting more than 3 weeks after the birth; some of them are recurrent.
