Estimating sensitivity and specificity of diagnostic tests using latent class models that account for conditional dependence between tests: a simulation study

open access: yesBMC Medical Research Methodology, 2023
Background Latent class models are increasingly used to estimate the sensitivity and specificity of diagnostic tests in the absence of a gold standard, and are commonly fitted using Bayesian methods.

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

DeepCLSMOTE: deep class-latent synthetic minority oversampling technique [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ Computer Science
Deep learning models often exhibit bias when trained on imbalanced datasets, tending to favor majority classes. While Deep Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique (DeepSMOTE) mitigates this challenge by generating synthetic minority class images ...

Emerging insights into CC and CXC chemokines and their receptors in Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dual roles of CC and CXC chemokines in distinguishing active, latent, and subclinical tuberculosis were reviewed, along with an evaluation of their potential as diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets to advance precision medicine in tuberculosis management. The graphical abstract was generated with AI assistance (Gemini 3.0).

Latent Class Probabilistic Latent Feature Analysis of Three-Way Three-Mode Binary Data

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Software, 2018
The analysis of binary three-way data (i.e., persons who indicate which attributes apply to each of a set of objects) may be of interest in several substantive domains as sensory profiling, marketing research or personality assessment.

Modeling Predictors of Latent Classes in Regression Mixture Models [PDF]

open access: yesStructural Equation Modeling: A Multidisciplinary Journal, 2016
The purpose of the current study is to provide guidance on a process for including latent class predictors in regression mixture models. We first examine the performance of current practice for using the 1-step and 3-step approaches where the direct covariate effect on the outcome is omitted.

Mutant NPM1 in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Initiation and Maintenance

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
NPM1 mutations drive acute myeloid leukemia by acting as neomorphic transcriptional regulators that cooperate with Menin–MLL and XPO1 to sustain HOX/MEIS1 expression and block differentiation. Targeting these mutant‐specific transcriptional dependencies provides a rational therapeutic strategy for NPM1‐mutated AML.

Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) in a Patient With Compound Heterozygous OPA1 Variants: Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Super‐Refractory Status Epilepticus (SRSE) is a rare, life‐threatening neurological emergency with unclear etiology in many cases. Mitochondrial dysfunction, often due to disease‐causing genetic variants, is increasingly recognized as a cause, with each gene producing distinct pathophysiological mechanisms.

poLCA: An R Package for Polytomous Variable Latent Class Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Statistical Software, 2011
poLCA is a software package for the estimation of latent class and latent class regression models for polytomous outcome variables, implemented in the R statistical computing environment. Both models can be called using a single simple command line.
