Spatial Disaggregation of Latent Heat Flux Using Contextual Models over India

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2017
Estimation of latent heat flux at the agricultural field scale is required for proper water management. The current generation thermal sensors except Landsat-8 provide data on the order of 1000 m.

Sensible and latent heating of the atmosphere as inferred from DST-6 data [PDF]

open access: yes
The average distribution of convective latent heating, boundary layer sensible heat flux, and vertical velocity are determined for the winter 1976 DST period from GLAS model diagnostics. Key features are the regions of intense latent heating over Brazil,

Asymmetry of the Ferroelectric Phase Transition in BaTiO3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Phase transitions are typically assumed to behave identically in forward and reverse. This work shows that in the ferroelectric material barium titanate this is not true: heating drives an abrupt, first‐order jump, while cooling gives a smooth, continuous change.

Utilization of satellite cloud information to diagnose the energy state and transformations in extratropical cyclones [PDF]

open access: yes
A study of the contribution of latent heat release to the synoptic scale vertical motions in the Jan. 9-11, 1975 extratropical cyclone case study was completed.

Hydrogel Thermostat Inspired by Photoprotective Foliage Using Latent and Radiative Heat Control

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Guided by Populus alba foliage, this hydrogel latent‐radiative thermostat (LRT) actively balances latent and radiative heat fluxes. An LRT switches solar reflectance, maintains high mid‐IR emissivity, and reversibly evaporates/regenerates water, while titanium oxide (TiO2) nanoparticles toughen the film.

Recent Investigations of Phase Change Materials Use in Solar Thermal Energy Storage System

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
Solar thermal energy storage (TES) is an efficient way to solve the conflict between unsteady input energy and steady output energy in concentrating solar power plant.

Ammonium Salts as Curing Agents to Obtain Ionic Epoxy Resins With a Thermoplastic‐to‐Thermoset Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic epoxy networks are prepared using ammonium salts as hardeners, leading to a two‐stage curing process with a thermoplastic‐like intermediate. This uncommon behavior enables extrusion and fabrication of thermoplastic prepregs that can be cured into thermoset composites.

Optimisation of metastable supercooled liquid phase change material for long-term heat energy accumulation

open access: yesEnergy Conversion and Management: X
This research study investigates sodium acetate trihydrate as a metastable supercooled liquid phase change material for long-term heat energy storage and is an efficient evaluation of various sodium acetate trihydrate-to-water ratios and heat exchanger ...
