Homogeneous $2$-shifts

open access: yes, 2018
The classification of homogeneous scalar weighted shifts is known. Recently, Kor\'{a}nyi obtained a large class of inequivalent irreducible homogeneous bi-lateral $2$-by-$2$ block shifts.

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

A comparison of time to achieve T5 blockade in lateral versus sitting position during elective cesarean section under spinal anesthesia: A randomized control trial

open access: yesJournal of Obstetric Anaesthesia and Critical Care, 2020
Context: Spinal anesthesia is the preferred anesthetic technique for cesarean section. Lateral and sitting positions are commonly used for performing subarachnoid block in parturients. Maternal positioning affects the spread of local anesthetic drugs and

Air-Q ILA as a conduit for orotracheal intubation in children: A randomized control trial for comparison between supine and lateral patient positions

open access: yesJournal of Anaesthesiology Clinical Pharmacology, 2022
Background and Aims: Airway management in children is always challenging and becomes a concern if required in the lateral position. We evaluated the efficacy of orotracheal intubation using the Air-Q intubating laryngeal Airway (Air-Q ILA) in supine and ...

Lateralization of lateral displays in convict cichlids [PDF]

open access: yesBiology Letters, 2011
We examine lateralization of lateral displays in convict cichlids, Amatitlania nigrofasciata , and show a population level preference for showing the right side. This enables contesting pairs of fish to align in a head-to-tail posture, facilitating other activities.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Perioperative safety assessment of patients undergoing unilateral or bilateral hip replacements

open access: yesFrontiers in Surgery, 2023
IntroductionDue to the aging of the world population and the increase of obesity rate, it is expected that the number of joint replacement surgery will continue to increase in the next few years.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...
