Chemical and Molecular Strategies in Restoring Autophagic Flux in TDP-43 Proteinopathy

open access: yesMolecules
The cytoplasmic accumulation of TDP-43 aggregates remains a persistent pathological hallmark of neurodegenerative diseases, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), frontotemporal dementia (FTD), and limbic-predominant age-related TDP-43 ...

Does Long‐Term Lower Extremity Strength Training in Adults With Knee Osteoarthritis and Varus Alignment Reduce Knee Joint Loading During Gait?

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We examined whether 18 months of strength training in individuals with knee varus alignment and medial tibiofemoral osteoarthritis (OA) reduced knee joint loads during walking compared to an attention control group. Methods This study was a secondary analysis of a randomized clinical trial that compared the effects of strength training to a ...

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Field Report from Collaborative Research Center 1625: Heterogeneous Research Data Management Using Ontology Representations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A unified research data management framework for heterogeneous materials data is presented. The system integrates multimodal datasets using ontologies and knowledge graphs, enabling interoperability and FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) data principles. By linking data across scales and workflows, it supports reproducible, Artifitial

Cerebrospinal fluid flow and clearance driven by lateral ventricle volume oscillations

open access: yes
Abstract In the human brain, substance clearance is intimately connected to the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and its flow. CSF extends from the lateral ventricles (LVs) to the parenchyma’s perivascular spaces. Macroscopic undulating CSF flow is present during both wakefulness and sleep and can be experimentally induced.

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Whirl Simulation of Drill Collar and Assessment of Cumulative Fatigue Damage on Drill Collar Connection

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2018
Most drill collar connection failures are attributed to cumulative fatigue caused by bending vibrations, in which the whirl caused by the eccentricity of the rotary drill collar is one of the most important bending vibrations.

A Data-Driven Framework for Detecting Unsafe Ship–Bridge Passages Based on AIS Trajectories

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Ship–bridge collisions in cross-sea bridge waterways are rare but potentially catastrophic events, making conventional accident-based risk assessment difficult to implement effectively.

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.
