Evidence for Pre-synaptic Inhibition in the Lateral Geniculate Body

Nature, 1965
SZENTAGOTHAI1 reported the presence of axo-axonic endings on fibres entering the lateral geniculate body from the retina. Bizzi and Brooks2 have shown that in the unanaesthetized, unrestrained cat irregular groups of waves could be recorded simultaneously from the pontine reticular formation and the lateral geniculate body during the desynchronized ...

Binocular Interaction in the Lateral Geniculate Body of the Cat

1961
The problem of the significance of the lateral geniculate body in the visual pathway has aroused considerable interest lately. From the evidence available so far it seems that this role is likely to be different in different animal species. In the cat there is evidence to suggest that the lateral geniculate body is an important integrative centre (3, 4,

The shift-effect in the lateral geniculate body of the rhesus monkey

Experimental Brain Research, 1977
Responses to sudden shifts of a pattern far away from the receptive field (shift-effect) were found in 73 out of 81 cells of the ventral, magnocellular LGN layers, but in only 26 out of 85 cells of the dorsal, parvocellular layers. Most of the former responses were clear and excitatory, and most of the latter were weak and inhibitory.
