An Effective Beam Width Model of Slab in Thick Wall-Thick Slab Joints Subjected to Lateral Forces
Thick wall-thick slab structures are a newly-developed type of structural system comprising solely of structural floor slabs and shear walls, the former of which is thicker than that of slabs used in typical reinforced concrete frame structures.

Optimal Shear Wall Placement for Seismic Performance: A Comparative Study of Building Codes [PDF]
Shear walls are one of the most popular lateral load-resisting methods used in high-rise structures. Major design factors against structural collapse in RC buildings include lateral stresses (wind, seismic).

Giant pop-ins and amorphization in germanium during indentation [PDF]
Sudden excursions of unusually large magnitude (>1 μm), “giant pop-ins,” have been observed in the force-displacement curve for high load indentation of crystalline germanium(Ge).

Stiffness of Contacts Between Rough Surfaces
The effect of self-affine roughness on solid contact is examined with molecular dynamics and continuum calculations. The contact area and normal and lateral stiffnesses rise linearly with the applied load, and the load rises exponentially with decreasing

Several studies have been reported in published literature on analytical solutions for a laterally loaded pile installed in a homogeneous single soil layer. However, piles are rarely installed in an ideal homogeneous single soil layer.

The effect of masonry infill walls on the reinforced concrete frames behavior under lateral load [PDF]
The reinforced concrete structures with masonry infill walls are widely used to construct buildings in Algeria, as in many parts of the world. According to earthquake analysis, this type of construction can undergo serious damage under seismic load.

Monotonic and cyclic lateral load tests on driven piles in chalk [PDF]
This paper describes the results of a pile-testing campaign on open-ended tubular steel instrumented piles driven into the Chalk formation in the UK. The testing campaign comprised the performance of both monotonic and one-way cyclic lateral load tests,

Medial-lateral loading and wear in TKA [PDF]
Pre-clinical wear testing of Total Knee Arthroplasty has traditionally been carried out in a physical experiment [Fisher, 2002]. Recent computational models have been shown to have sufficient accuracy to be considered alongside these experiments [Knight,

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.
