Fluid–Structure Interaction Simulation of a Coriolis Mass Flowmeter Using a Lattice Boltzmann Method

open access: greenFluids, 2021
In this paper, we use a fluid–structure interaction (FSI) approach to simulate a Coriolis mass flowmeter (CMF). The fluid dynamics is calculated by the open-source framework OpenLB, based on the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM). For the structural dynamics

Multiscale semi-Lagrangian lattice Boltzmann method [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2021
We present a multi-scale lattice Boltzmann scheme, which adaptively refines particles' velocity space. Different velocity sets, i.e., higher- and lower-order lattices, are consistently and efficiently coupled, allowing us to use the higher-order lattice only when and where needed. This includes regions of either high Mach number or high Knudsen number.

Consistent Lattice Boltzmann Method [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2005
The problem of energy conservation in the lattice Boltzmann method is solved. A novel model with energy conservation is derived from Boltzmann's kinetic theory. It is demonstrated that the full thermo-hydrodynamics pertinent to the Boltzmann equation is recovered in the domain where variations around the reference temperature are small. Simulation of a

Crystallographic Lattice Boltzmann Method [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
AbstractCurrent approaches to Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) are computationally quite expensive for most realistic scientific and engineering applications of Fluid Dynamics such as automobiles or atmospheric flows. The Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM), with its simplified kinetic descriptions, has emerged as an important tool for simulating ...

Simulation of Dynamic Rearrangement Events in Wall-Flow Filters Applying Lattice Boltzmann Methods

open access: yesFluids, 2023
Wall-flow filters are applied in the exhaust treatment of internal combustion engines for the removal of particulate matter (PM). Over time, the pressure drop inside those filters increases due to the continuously introduced solid material, which forms ...

Simulation of Particulate Matter Structure Detachment from Surfaces of Wall-Flow Filters for Elevated Velocities Applying Lattice Boltzmann Methods

open access: yesFluids, 2023
Rearrangement events in wall-flow filters lead to the formation of specific deposition patterns, which affect a filter’s pressure drop, its loading capacity and the separation efficiency.

Axisymmetric multiphase lattice Boltzmann method [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2013
A lattice Boltzmann method for axisymmetric multiphase flows is presented and validated. The method is capable of accurately modeling flows with variable density. We develop the classic Shan-Chen multiphase model [ Phys. Rev. E 47 1815 (1993)] for axisymmetric flows. The model can be used to efficiently simulate single and multiphase flows.
