Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Electrostatic Layer-by-Layer Self-Assembly

Physical Review Letters, 2004
Electrostatic assembly of multilayered thin films through sequential adsorption of polyions in layer-by-layer fashion utilizes the strong electrostatic attraction between oppositely charged molecules. We perform molecular dynamics simulations of multilayers of flexible polyelectrolytes around a charged spherical particle. Our simulations establish that

Layer-by-Layer Self-Assembly of Polymers with Pairing Interactions

ACS Macro Letters, 2016
A molecular theory is introduced to model the layer-by-layer self-assembly (LbL-SA) of polymers with pairing interactions. Our theory provides a general framework to describe nonelectrostatic LbL-SA as the pairing interactions generically describe the formation of bonds between two complementary chemical species, for example, hydrogen donor and ...

Tubular Titania Nanostructures via Layer‐by‐Layer Self‐Assembly

Advanced Functional Materials, 2007
AbstractNanostructured titania‐polyelectrolyte composite and pure anatase and rutile titania tubes were successfully prepared by layer‐by‐layer (LbL) deposition of a water‐soluble titania precursor, titanium(IV) bis(ammonium lactato) dihydroxide (TALH) and the oppositely charged poly(ethylenimine) (PEI) to form multilayer films.

Layer-by-layer self-assembled chitosan/PAA nanofiltration membranes

Separation and Purification Technology, 2018
Abstract Polyelectrolyte composite nanofiltration membranes were prepared using layer-by-layer self-assembly of chitosan and poly(acrylic acid) on a microporous polyethersulfone substrate. Membranes with a layer-by-layer structure were formed by sequential depositions of cationic chitosan and anionic poly(acrylic acid) alternately.

LAYER-BY-LAYER SELF-ASSEMBLED FILMS OF ROSE BENGAL

International Journal of Modern Physics B, 2011
Layer-by-Layer (LBL) self-assembled films of rose bengal (RB) have been fabricated onto quartz substrate by the alternative adsorption of polycation poly (amine hydrochloride) (PAH) and RB. UV–Vis absorption studies reveal the formation of RB dimmer in PAH-RB LbL films.

Magnetically Encoded Luminescent Composite Nanoparticles through Layer‐by‐Layer Self‐Assembly

Chemistry – A European Journal, 2014
AbstractSensitive and rapid detection of multiple analytes and the collection of components from complex samples are important in fields ranging from bioassays/chemical assays, clinical diagnosis, to environmental monitoring. A convenient strategy for creating magnetically encoded luminescent CdTe@SiO2@n Fe3O4 composite nanoparticles, by using a layer ...

Layer-by-layer self-assembly of hydrophobically modified polyelectrolytes

Macromolecular Chemistry and Physics, 1999
Polymeric multilayer films are self-assembled by alternating electrostatic adsorption of a coloured polyanion and UV-labeled polycations which exhibit polysoap characteristics. Film thicknesses grow linearly with the adsorption cycles, albeit the films grown from salt-free aqueous solutions are very thin.

Multilayer Nanostructured Porphyrin Arrays Constructed by Layer-by-Layer Self-Assembly

Langmuir, 2009
UV-vis absorption, atomic force microscopy (AFM), contact angle, and X-ray reflectivity experiments were performed on thin films deposited on crystalline silicon substrates as alternating layers of a porphyrin with anionic functionality, tetra-5,10,15,20-(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphine (TSPP) or the metalated version, Cu(II)TSPP, and the cationic ...

Layer by Layer Self-Assembled Polyelectrolyte Multilayers with Embedded Phospholipid Vesicles

Langmuir, 2004
We describe a method to embed phospholipid vesicles into polyelectrolyte multilayers built up by the alternate deposition of polyanions and polycations. Before deposition, the vesicles are rigidified by polycation adsorption onto their surface avoiding their fusion once deposited on the multilayer surface.

Antibacterial Properties Enhancement of Layer-by-Layer Self-Assembled Nanofiltration Membranes

Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2018
Membrane technology is now being widely used in the field of water treatment for its unique advantages. Layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly technique is a convenient and versatile method of modified nanofiltration (NF) membranes fabrication, which can be used to control the thickness and the surface properties of membranes by chemical deposition of ...
