Facile synthesis of Ca/Mg/Al/Fe layered double hydroxides using steelmaking slag as raw material

open access: yes, 2016
Ca/Mg/Al/Fe layered double hydroxides (LDHs) were synthesized through coprecipitation using steelmaking slag as raw material. The structural morphology of Ca/Mg/Al/Fe LDHs was characterized, and results revealed a well-defined shape with obvious ...

Toward Fast Proton Shuttling in Acidic Oxygen Evolution Reaction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review establishes proton transfer dynamics as a descriptor governing acidic OER activity, moving beyond the kinetic constraints derived from the proton coupled electron transfer. We discuss how deprotonation governs classical mechanisms, including adsorbate evolution mechanism (AEM), lattice oxygen mechanism (LOM) and oxide path mechanism (OPM ...

Mineralogy of C-S-H belite hydrates incorporating Zn-Al-Ti layered double hydroxides

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Recently, the belitic cements with low alite content were the subject of several research works which aimed to replace the Ordinary Portland Clinker (OPC) for ecological reasons (reduction of CO2 emissions), so to understand the reactivity of this cement,

High-performance and stable photoelectrochemical water splitting cell with organic-photoactive-layer-based photoanode

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
While organic semiconductors may be useful in photoelectrochemical water-splitting materials, they show low stability in water. Here, the authors report high-performance and stable organic-semiconductor-based photoanodes passivated using nickel foils ...

Bioinspired Mechanically Robust Organic–Inorganic Hybridized Bio‐Adhesives With up to 50% Inorganic Components by Bi‐Continuous Phase Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A robust plant protein adhesive was prepared by fabricating a bi‐continuous organic–inorganic hybrid structure. Compared with traditional organic–inorganic hybrid adhesives, the addition amount of inorganic phase is increased from 0.2%–3.0% to 50%, and the strength and toughness are increased by 6 and 121 times, respectively.

Electrocapillary Modulated Interfacial Tension Amplifies Liquid Metal Transduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presented an electrocapillary‐enhanced magnetohydrodynamic pumping strategy that harnesses the Lorentz force and interfacial tension modulation of liquid metal droplets to achieve amplified fluidic power. The system enabled low‐voltage, self‐oscillating fluidic transduction with enhanced pressure and flow generation, supporting compact ...

In-situ structure and catalytic mechanism of NiFe and CoFe layered double hydroxides during oxygen evolution

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
NiFe and CoFe layered double hydroxides are among the most active electrocatalysts for the alkaline oxygen evolution reaction. Here, by combining operando experiments and rigorous DFT calculations, the authors unravel their active phase, the reaction ...

Anion‐Exchange‐Enabled Hydrogel Electrolytes With High Zn2+ Transference for Dendrite‐Free Flexible Zinc‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A high‐Zn2+‐transference hydrogel electrolyte of ex‐PDADAM is developed via anion exchange at quaternary ammonium sites, achieving high Zn2+ transference number (0.86), ionic conductivity (8.10 mS cm−1), and toughness (51.25 MJ m−3). Symmetric cells are operated stably for over 2000 h, while flexible pouch cells retain 90.9% capacity after 300 cycles ...
