Applied Mathematics, the Hans van Duijn way [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This is a former PhD student's take on his teacher's scientific philosophy. I describe a set of 'principles' that I believe are conducive to good applied mathematics, and that I have learnt myself from observing Hans van Duijn in action.Comment: 11 ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Evaluation and Deformation Control Study on the Bias Pressure of Layered Rock Tunnels

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, 2021
In the process of tunnel construction, the bias of layered rock mass tunnels has always been a prominent problem that troubles the construction and safe operation of tunnels.

Tunnel surrounding rock plastic zone in the layered rock mass with the elastoplastic theory

open access: yesShuiwen dizhi gongcheng dizhi
Existing theoretical studies on the plastic zone of tunnel surrounding rock mainly focus on the circular tunnel in the isotropic rock mass, with limited attention paid to layered rock mass.

Semi-automated classification of layered rock slopes using digital elevation model and geological map

open access: yesOpen Geosciences, 2023
Layered rock slopes are the most widely distributed slopes with the simplest structure. The classification of layered rock slopes is the basis for correctly analyzing their deformation and failure mechanisms, evaluating their stability, and adopting ...

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Research on Damage Evolution Mechanism of Layered Rock Mass under Blasting Load

open access: yesBuildings
Rock mass consists of many discontinuities, such as faults, joints, etc., and layered joints are a common kind of rock mass structure. The joints affect the stress wave propagation, and blasting is an economical and efficient rock fragmentation method ...

Study on deformation of layered rock tunnel based on material point method [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Civil Engineering
The stability problems of layered rock mass are frequently encountered in tunnel and underground engineering. Affected by bedding plane, the mechanical properties of surrounding rock show obvious anisotropy, which makes its failure characteristics more ...

A New Iron Pnictide Oxide (Fe2As2)(Ca5(Mg,Ti)4Oy) and a New Phase in Fe-As-Ca-Mg-Ti-O system

open access: yes, 2012
A new layered iron arsenide oxide (Fe2As2)(Ca5(Mg,Ti)4Oy) and its structural derivative were found in the Fe-As-Ca-Mg-Ti-O system. The crystal structure of (Fe2As2)(Ca5(Mg,Ti)4Oy) is identical to that of (Fe2As2)(Ca5(Sc,Ti)4Oy), which was reported in our
