Ethologische Untersuchungen zum Mauserumtrieb im Biolandbau [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
A longer life for laying hens is desired from an ethical point of view. Not only because the hens can be used for a longer period but also less male chicks would have to be killed at the age of one day.

Spatial Cell Death and Oxidative Stress Dynamics in Gas Plasma‐Treated Tumor Tissues

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Schematic representation of the four experimental models to study tissue penetration and oxidation. Four tissue models were used. Human pancreatic cancer cells were grown on the chorioallantois membrane of chicken embryos and gas plasma‐treated in ovo, murine colorectal tumor tissue was gas plasma‐exposed ex vivo, murine squamous cell carcinoma cells ...

Effects of induced molting on lipid accumulation in liver of aged laying hens

open access: yesPoultry Science
As the age of laying increases, the metabolic capacity of the liver decreases, leading to excessive lipid accumulation, which seriously affects the laying performance of laying hens.

Dual Functions of Dietary Rubber Seed Oil Supplementation: Enriching N‐3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids and Enhancing Antioxidant Capacity in Pekin Ducks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Dietary RSO supplementation improved growth performance, simultaneously enriched n‐3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 PUFA), and enhanced antioxidant capacity in Pekin ducks, which suggested that RSO has the potential to be a novel n‐3 PUFA source and an antioxidant for Pekin ducks to generate animal functional foods.

Effect of body weight of laying hens on production traits of broiler parents [PDF]

open access: yesBiotechnology in Animal Husbandry, 2017
Certain investigations have been conducted in two broiler breeder flocks of Ross 308 and Cobb 500 hybrids. At the beginning of the production cycle (24 weeks of age), an average laying hens' body weight of 2680.40 g was found in the case of Ross 308 ...

Dietary Mannan‐Rich Fractions Attenuate Weaning Stress in Piglets via Modulating Gut Microbiota and TLR5/NF‐κB Signaling

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This study aimed to investigate the potential of a mannan‐rich fraction (MRF) as a dietary intervention to alleviate weaning stress in piglets. Our results revealed that MRF could alleviate weaning stress by modulating the gut microbiota and the TLR5/NF‐κB signaling pathway, offering a novel and sustainable alternative to antibiotic use in swine ...
