Two-dimensional square buckled Rashba lead chalcogenides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We propose the lead sulphide (PbS) monolayer as a two-dimensional semiconductor with a large Rashba-like spin-orbit effect controlled by the out-of-plane buckling.

Erythropoietic potential of Parquetina nigrescens in cephalosporin-induced anaemia model

open access: yesMetabolism Open, 2020
Parquetina nigrescens is a folklore plant in Africa, particularly Nigeria, where its consumption is believed to stimulate red blood cells production. On this basis, the erythropoietic potential of the plant was evaluated in Cephalosporin-induced anaemia ...

Topological superconductivity in lead nanowires [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Superconductors with an odd number of bands crossing the Fermi energy have topologically protected Andreev states at interfaces, including Majorana states in one dimensional geometries.

Music improves verbal memory encoding while decreasing prefrontal cortex activity: an fNIRS study

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2013
Listening to music engages the whole brain, thus stimulating cognitive performance in a range of non purely musical activities such as language and memory tasks.

Electrodeposited lead dioxide coatings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Lead dioxide coatings on inert substrates such as titanium and carbon now offer new opportunities for a material known for 150 years. It is now recognised that electrodeposition allows the preparation of stable coatings with different phase structures ...

Less effort, better results: how does music act on prefrontal cortex in older adults during verbal encoding? An fNIRS study.

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2014
Several neuroimaging studies of cognitive ageing revealed deficits in episodic memory abilities as a result of prefrontal cortex (PFC) limitations. Improving episodic memory performance despite PFC deficits is thus a critical issue in ageing research ...

Interaction of Stern layer and domain structure on photochemistry of lead-zirconate-titanate. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Perovskite ferroelectric materials such as PZT have long been known to have wideband semiconducting properties. It has also been found that they have interesting spatially controllable surface photochemical effects that are not seen in 'normal ...

Lead exposure from lead crystal

open access: yesThe Lancet, 1991
In a study of the elution of lead (Pb) from crystal decanters and glasses, port containing 89 micrograms Pb/l was placed in decanters and the Pb content of the wine rose steadily to 3518 micrograms/l after 4 months. Wines and spirits stored in crystal decanters for a long time contained Pb at concentrations up to 21,530 micrograms/l.

Leading Clinicians and Clinicians Leading [PDF]

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2013
More effective models of care delivery are needed, but their successful implementation depends on effective care teams and good management of local operations (clinical microsystems). Clinicians influence both, and local clinician leaders will have several key tasks.
