A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 1 study of the safety, tolerability and pharmacodynamics of volixibat in overweight and obese but otherwise healthy adults: implications for treatment of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis

open access: yesBMC Pharmacology and Toxicology, 2018
Background Accumulation of toxic free cholesterol in hepatocytes may cause hepatic inflammation and fibrosis. Volixibat inhibits bile acid reuptake via the apical sodium bile acid transporter located on the luminal surface of the ileum.

THE USE OF LEAD CITRATE AT HIGH pH AS AN ELECTRON-OPAQUE STAIN IN ELECTRON MICROSCOPY

open access: yesJournal of Cell Biology, 1963
Aqueous solutions of lead salts (1, 2) and saturated solutions of lead hydroxide (1) have been used as stains to enhance the electron-scattering properties of components of biological materials examined in the electron microscope.

What breaks the flow of reading? A study on characteristics of attentional disruption during digital reading

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2022
Reading is increasingly taking place on digital media, which are vectors of attentional disruption. This manuscript aims to characterize attentional disruption during reading on a computer screen in an ecological environment.

Elevated soil lead: Statistical modeling and apportionment of contributions from lead-based paint and leaded gasoline [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Statistics 2007, Vol. 1, No. 1, 130-151, 2007
While it is widely accepted that lead-based paint and leaded gasoline are primary sources of elevated concentrations of lead in residential soils, conclusions regarding their relative contributions are mixed and generally study specific. We develop a novel nonlinear regression for soil lead concentrations over time.
