Discovery of three lead-rich stars

Nature, 2001
About half of the stable nuclei heavier than iron are believed to be synthesized during the late stages of evolution of stars with masses in the range 0.8-8 solar masses. These elements are then expelled into the interstellar medium through stellar winds after being 'dredged up' towards the surface of the stars.

The In Silico Drug Discovery Toolbox: Applications in Lead Discovery and Optimization

Current Medicinal Chemistry, 2019
Background:Discovery and development of a new drug is a long lasting and expensive journey that takes around 20 years from starting idea to approval and marketing of new medication. Despite R&D expenditures have been constantly increasing in the last few years, the number of new drugs introduced into market has been steadily declining.

Experiences in Fragment-Based Lead Discovery

2011
This chapter summarizes the experience at Vernalis over the past decade in developing and applying fragment-based discovery methods across a range of different targets. The emphasis will be on the practical aspects of the different biophysical techniques (surface plasmon resonance (SPR), differential scanning fluorimetry (DSF), isothermal titration ...

Chemical space navigation in lead discovery

Current Opinion in Chemical Biology, 2002
The number of new chemical entities has remained rather constant (averaging 37 per year) in the past decade, despite the multiple-fold increase in the number of compounds that are being made and tested. Chemical space requires novel methods that can handle the increasing number of potentially accessible molecules.

Leading for Robust Discovery

2018
This chapter explores pragmatic leadership skills and how they help achieve innovation. It shows how ideationally competent leaders support the internal process of innovation by picking up contextual cues in the environment and exploring the signals and trends, obstacles and challenges. They have the ideational competence to create the sense of sharing,
