The present epidemic of cotton leaf curl disease (CLCuD) originated in the Punjab region near the city of Multan and was first reported in 1985, although it was noted in this region as early as 1967.

Leaf samples (five) from brinjal/eggplant fields showing upward leaf curling symptoms were collected from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh state, India. The full length genome of begomovirus and associated betasatellite were amplified by PCR, cloned and sequenced. Sequences of homologous DNA-A and its betasatellite in all samples were the same.

Lisianthus Leaf Curl a New Disease of Lisianthus Caused by Tomato Yellow Leaf Curl Virus
Plant Disease, 1995In 1992 viruslike symptoms appeared on lisianthus plants grown at different locations in Israel. The symptoms included distortion of the growing tips, cup-shaped leaves, and swelling of veins on the lower surface of the leaves. Plants infected at an early stage did not yeld flowers, but late infections did not impair flowering.
