Leaf temperature and gas exchange responses to ultraviolet radiation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Commercial growers utilising ultraviolet (UV) transparent plastic polytunnel claddings reported enhanced leaf temperature, which they associated with early crop maturity. The general consensus in the literature is that UV radiation reduces stomatal conductance.

Higher rates of leaf gas exchange are associated with higher leaf hydrodynamic pressure gradients [PDF]

open access: yesPlant, Cell & Environment, 2005
ABSTRACTSteady‐state leaf gas‐exchange parameters and leaf hydraulic conductance were measured on 10 vascular plant species, grown under high light and well‐watered conditions, in order to test for evidence of a departure from hydraulic homeostasis within leaves as hydraulic conductance varied across species.

Bioinspired Adaptive Surfaces for Intelligent Liquid Manipulation: Progressing From Passive and Active to Hybrid Strategies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines passive, active, and hybrid liquid manipulation strategies, highlighting hybrid approaches as an emerging route to reconcile energy efficiency with adaptive control. By actively reconstructing passive surfaces to store programmable interfacial energy, hybrid systems enable flexible yet low‐power liquid transport, with perspectives ...

Gas exchange in Massai grass fertilized with nitrogen and grazed by sheep

open access: yesBioscience Journal, 2020
The knowledge of gas exchanges in forage plants is essential for a better understanding of the process of forage biomass production in pasture. This study evaluated the gas exchange in massai grass fertilized with increasing levels of nitrogen fertilizer

Irrigation with saline water in soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) in a soil with bovine biofertilizer

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental
Salinity is a complex phenomenon that affects the metabolic processes of the plant, changing the physiological and biochemical parameters. In this context, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of irrigation water salinity on growth ...

Gold‐Stabilized Copper Enables Anodic Hydrogen Evolution for Ultralow‐Voltage CO‐to‐Ethylene Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Gold‐stabilized copper suppresses hydroxide‐driven deactivation during anodic hydrogen evolution from furfural. Pairing this low‐potential anode with CO‐to‐ethylene electroreduction enables sub‐1 V operation at 400 mA cm−2, high single‐pass CO conversion, and co‐production of ethylene, furoic acid, and a separate hydrogen stream.

Distinct Particle Films Impacts on Olive Leaf Optical Properties and Plant Physiology

open access: yesFoods, 2021
The olive fruit fly is worldwide considered a major harmful pest of the olive agroecosystem. In Italy, the fruit fly infestation is traditionally countered by spraying chemical insecticides (e.g., dimethoate), but due to the recent ban of dimethoate by ...

Effect of Fruiting on Leaf Gas Exchange in Olive (Olea Europaea L.) [PDF]

open access: yesPhotosynthetica, 2000
The effect on traits of photosynthesis and water relations of assimilate demand was studied in olive tree that has strong alternate bearing. The diurnal and seasonal leaf gas exchanges, area dry mass, and saccharide and chlorophyll (Chl) contents were measured by comparing shoots with fruit of "on-trees" (heavy fruit load) with shoots without fruit on ...
