Droplet Electricity Generators With Maximized Energy Collection Zone Enabled by Aloe‐Inspired Midrib and Cuticle

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An Aloe‐pinspired droplet electricity generator (A‐DEG) overcomes the limited energy collection zone of conventional DEGs by guiding impact droplets through a channeling midrib and artificial cuticle. The channeling midrib induces uni‐directional droplet spreading, while the artificial cuticle on the midrib further reinforces this behavior through its ...

Oregon ‘Pinot noir’ grape anthocyanin enhancement by early leaf removal

open access: yes
Complete cluster zone leaf removal of 'Pinot noir' was initiated at three separate pre-veraison growth stages (bloom, grain-pea size, and bunch closure) and maintained leaf free until harvest, for four growing seasons (2008-2011).

Oxygen management for optimisation of nitrogen removal in a sequencing batch reactor

open access: yes, 2003
In today's progressively urbanised society, there is an increasing need for cost-effective, environmentally sound technologies for the removal of nutrients (carbon, phosphorous, nitrogen) from polluted water. Nitrogen removal from wastewater is the focus

Gibberellic Acid Treatment Reduces the Tolerance of Field-Grown Common Bean to Leaf Removal

open access: yes, 1997
I studied the influence of gibberellic acid (GA3) treatment in a field population of common bean on plant tolerance to leaf removal. Individual bean seedlings were treated with a foliar application of 10 μM GA3 on day 7 and day 14 after emergence, which ...

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.

Utilizing Pruning and Leaf Removal to Ripen Grapes and Encourage Cold Tolerance in North Dakota [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Experiments were conducted at North Dakota vineyards in 2011 and 2012. Pruning limited vines to a specific number of primary buds while leaf removal exposed ripening grape clusters to increased sunlight.

AI–Guided 4D Printing of Carnivorous Plants–Inspired Microneedles for Accelerated Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents an artificial intelligence (AI)‐guided 4D‐printed microneedle platform inspired by carnivorous plants for wound healing. A thermo‐responsive shape memory polymer enables body temperature–triggered self‐coiling for autonomous wound closure.

Determination of Effects of Some Summer Pruning Applications on Yield and Quality Characteristics of Alphonse Lavallée (Vitis vinifera L.) Grape Variety

open access: yesHorticulturae
Grapes, one of the most delicious and refreshing fruits in the world, are a source of sugar, minerals, and vitamins. Summer pruning affects ripening, disease control, yield, and quality parameters by controlling the vine microclimate.

Late leaf removal effects in Bobal and Tempranillo

open access: yes, 2018
Background and Aims Climate change is advancing grape ripening and decoupling sugar and phenolic maturity, impacting wine typicity. The aim of this study was to test whether late leaf removal (LLR) under different watering regimes delayed harvest of two Spanish red cultivars in a semi‐arid and temperate‐warm climate.

Path‐Decoupled Cation‐Eutaxy III–V van der Waals Memristive Semiconductors for Mitigating the Neuromorphic Accuracy‐Energy Trade‐off

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Path‐decoupled III–V van der Waals memtransistors spatially separate ionic and electronic transport to overcome the conventional trade‐off between accuracy and energy in neuromorphic hardware. Mobile K+ ions in the vdW gaps set a wide conductance window, Gmax/Gmin, while gate‐tunable hole conduction lowers programming energy, enabling reliable ...
