Monolayer molecular sensing using infrared leaky waveguide mode
Surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy is attractive for molecular sensing due to its access to chemical bonds with high detection sensitivity.

Resonant State Spectral expansions including bound-state contributions [PDF]
Extensions of the Resonant State or (Quasi-normal mode) formalism are shown to permit unified descriptions of the true ’bound’ states within the framework of the ’leaky’ mode formulation of basis sets.

A rectangular metallic leaky waveguide loaded with liquid crystals (LC) and operating in its fundamental TE mode at 1 THz is proposed to mitigate the well-known trade-off between directivity and tunable angular range of dynamic beamscanning antennas. The

Analysis and Design of Tunable THz 1-D Leaky-Wave Antennas Based on Nematic Liquid Crystals
The tunable properties of nematic liquid crystals (NLC) are here exploited in a peculiar leaky waveguide with artificial magnetic conductors as the lateral walls, a bottom metal ground plane, and a homogenized metasurface on top to obtain dynamic ...

Phase of Topological Lattice with Leaky Guided Mode Resonance
Topological nature in different areas of physics and electronics has often been characterized and controlled through topological invariants depending on the global properties of the material.

Backside emission leaky-mode modulators
We report on an advancement to leaky-mode modulators that allows for backside emission from the device. This is accomplished by adding a high spatial frequency surface relief grating (~300 nm period) to the backside of the modulator. The outcome being a theoretical arbitrary increase in usable output aperture, at the cost of angular deflection.

High-efficiency wide-band metal-dielectric resonant grating for 20 fs pulse compression [PDF]
More than 95% average efficiency TE-polarisation diffraction over a 200 nm wavelength range centred at 800 nm is obtained by a metal-dielectric grating structure with non-corrugated mirror.

Characterization of Anisotropic Leaky Mode Modulators for Holovideo [PDF]
Holovideo displays are based on light-bending spatial light modulators. One such spatial light modulator is the anisotropic leaky mode modulator. This modulator is particularly well suited for holographic video experimentation as it is relatively simple and inexpensive to fabricate.

Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) waves are often invoked to interpret quasiperiodic pulsations (QPPs) in solar flares. We study the response of a straight flare loop to a kink-like velocity perturbation using three-dimensional MHD simulations and forward model ...
