On the leaky modes of open microstrip lines

Microwave and Optical Technology Letters, 1989
AbstractDispersion characteristics and modal currents of an open microstrip line are computed using the mixed‐potential electric field integral equation. Particular attention is given to the correct determination of the radiating, leaky‐wave modes.

Behavioral feature of the space-wave leaky mode, the surface-wave leaky mode and the bound mode

2000 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest (Cat. No.00CH37017), 2002
We report here our recent discoveries relating to the dispersion behaviors of printed-circuit transmission lines. Such behaviors relate to those of both the bound dominant mode and the space-wave leaky modes propagating at rather low frequencies. The discovered behaviors affect significantly the performance of microwave and millimeter-wave integrated ...

Leaky modes on circular optical waveguides

Applied Optics, 1976
A nonabsorbing optical waveguide of circular cross section supports leaky modes in addition to the well-known bound modes. The detailed properties of these leaky modes are determined by solving the eigenvalue equation for the modes of a circular dielectric cylinder below their cutoff frequency.

Leaky Modes of Symmetrical Groove Guide

MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest, 2005
Both the odd and even higher modes of groove guide, a low-loss waveguide proposed some years ago for millimeter wavelengths and of interest again today, are investigated quantitatively. We verified an early prediction that all the odd higher modes leak, and we find that all even higher modes do also.

Leaky modes on W-fibers: mode structure and attenuation

Applied Optics, 1977
The mode structure of a W-fiber has been discussed in conjunction with that of an SC-fiber using the WKB approximation, and the leaky mode attenuation coefficient has been derived using Poynting's vector theorem. Furthermore, a simplified expression for the attenuation coefficient of the W-fiber has been obtained and compared with that of the SC-fiber.
