Leaky modes of nonlinear waveguides
2009 International Seminar/Workshop on Direct and Inverse Problems of Electromagnetic and Acoustic Wave Theory, 2009The leaky modes of planar waveguides with layered walls, consisting of nonlinear materials, are studied. The behaviour of the propagation coefficients are analyzed by the analytical and numerical techniques. The nonlinearity of the media is shown to change the modal dispersion characteristics.

Orthogonality Conditions for Leaky Modes
Radiophysics and Quantum Electronics, 2005We consider various approaches for normalization of leaky modes of open waveguides. General properties of such modes and their relation to continuous-spectrum modes are studied. Applicability of perturbation theory for calculating the shift of mode propagation constants in the case of small variations in the waveguide structure is discussed.

Coupling between different leaky-mode types in stub-loaded leaky waveguides
IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 1994Several leaky-wave antennas have been described in recent years that possess excellent properties, and they all have in common a parallel-plate stub guide of finite height as part of the cross section. For taller stubs and for larger leakage rates (wider radiated beams), some interesting new exotic interactions occur due to coupling between the desired

Tunnelling leaky modes on optical waveguides
Optics Communications, 1974Abstract The lossless dielectric waveguide of circular cross section with an index of refraction greater than its surround supports trapped modes in addition to two subclasses of leaky modes: refracting and tunnelling modes. Refracting modes leak because their fields are formed by waves that undergo refraction at the core-cladding interface ...

Active leaky-mode array and application
ICMMT'98. 1998 International Conference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave Technology. Proceedings (Cat. No.98EX106), 2002Recent advance in active integrated microstrip leaky-mode array is presented. Both theory and experiment for assessing the various types of leaky mode arrays agree very well in prediction of the pencil-beam radiation characteristics and the frequency scanning directions.

Quantized mode of a leaky cavity
Physical Review A, 2000We use Thomson's classical concept of mode of a leaky cavity to develop a quantum theory of cavity damping. This theory generalizes the conventional system-reservoir theory of high-$Q$ cavity damping to arbitrary Q. The small system now consists of damped oscillators corresponding to the natural modes of the leaky cavity rather than undamped ...

Leaky-mode calculations in optical fibers
SPIE Proceedings, 2010Assuming that the imaginary part of the propagation constant of leaky modes is much smaller that its real part, we describe a procedure for the calculation of the effective refractive index of multilayer optical fibers. In our method there is no need to look for roots in the complex plane, since the differential equations for the transverse modal ...

Leaky modes in graded index optical fibers
Applied Optics, 1976Leaky mode attenuation coefficients for graded index optical fibers are derived using the WKB approximation. For the case of a parabolic index profile, the attenuation coefficients for explicitly evaluated and used to calculate the leaky mode contribution to near field and attenuation measurements.

MEMS tunable resonant leaky mode filters
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2006A tunable double-grating resonant leaky mode microelectromechanical-type element is introduced. A significant level of tunability is demonstrated by adjusting mechanically the structural symmetry of the grating profile. Tuning is also possible by variation of the thickness of the resonant layer.
