The Transition Between Reactive and Radiative Regimes for Leaky Modes in Planar Waveguides Based on Homogenized Partially Reflecting Surfaces [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, 2020
The gradual transition from a reactive to a radiative regime is studied for leaky modes supported by multilayered planar open waveguides. The so-called leaky cutoff condition, i.e., the frequency for which the leaky phase constant $eta $ equals the leaky

Leaky Lamb Wave Radiation from a Waveguide Plate with Finite Width

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
In this paper, leaky Lamb wave radiation from a waveguide plate with finite width is investigated to gain a basic understanding of the radiation characteristics of the plate-type waveguide sensor.

Spectral tuning of diamond photonic crystal slabs by deposition of a thin layer with silicon vacancy centers

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2021
The controlled extraction of light from diamond optical color centers is essential for their practical prospective applications as single photon sources in quantum communications and as biomedical sensors in biosensing.

Angular Momentum of Leaky Modes in Hollow-Core Fibers

open access: yesFibers, 2022
It is known that angular momentum (AM) is an important characteristic of light, which can be separated into the spin (SAM) and orbital parts (OAM). The dynamical properties of the spin and orbital angular momentums are determined by the polarization and ...

Leaky modes in low-damping ε-near-zero slabs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We present a complex-mode analysis of an ε-near-zero metamaterial slab made of chains of core-shell nanocylinders. The mesoscopic nature of the slab induces narrowband, strong, effective nonlocal response mediated by leaky modes.

Spatial coherence filtering of normal incidence light through leaky mode engineering

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2022
Filtering light by coherence by metasurfaces would enable compact, integrable coherence filters. A recent such proposal centered on a metasurface of zigzags.

Influence of Subwavelength Grating Asymmetry on Long-Wavelength Infrared Transmittance Filters

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2018
Subwavelength dielectric gratings provide a means of narrowband spectral filtering by coupling to quasi-guided leaky modes, providing a high reflectivity background and narrowband transmittance via Fano resonance behavior.

Photonic-plasmonic mode coupling in nanopillar Ge-on-Si PIN photodiodes

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Incorporating group IV photonic nanostructures within active top-illuminated photonic devices often requires light-transmissive contact schemes. In this context, plasmonic nanoapertures in metallic films can not only be realized using CMOS compatible ...

Backside emission leaky-mode modulators

open access: yesOptics Express, 2017
We report on an advancement to leaky-mode modulators that allows for backside emission from the device. This is accomplished by adding a high spatial frequency surface relief grating (~300 nm period) to the backside of the modulator. The outcome being a theoretical arbitrary increase in usable output aperture, at the cost of angular deflection.
