From omics to AI—mapping the pathogenic pathways in type 2 diabetes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Integrating multi‐omics data with AI‐based modelling (unsupervised and supervised machine learning) identify optimal patient clusters, informing AI‐driven accurate risk stratification. Digital twins simulate individual trajectories in real time, guiding precision medicine by matching patients to targeted therapies.

Utility of Lean Body Mass Equations and Body Mass Index for Predicting Outcomes in Critically Ill Adults with Sepsis: A Retrospective Study

open access: yesDiseases
Lean body mass is a significant component of survival from sepsis. Several equations can be used for calculating lean body mass based on age, sex, body weight, and height.

Bone mineral density and its relationship with body composition indices in stroke patients

open access: yesBolʹ, Sustavy, Pozvonočnik, 2022
Background. Stroke and osteoporosis with its complications are age-related diseases that mainly affect the elderly. The aim of the study was to determine the bone mineral density (BMD, fat and lean mass and their association in stroke patients. Materials

Exploring lipid diversity and minimalism to define membrane requirements for synthetic cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Designing the lipid membrane of synthetic cells is a complex task, in which its various roles (among them solute transport, membrane protein support, and self‐replication) should all be integrated. In this review, we report the latest top‐down and bottom‐up advances and discuss compatibility and complexity issues of current engineering approaches ...

Effects of Quadriceps Strengthening Exercise on Quadriceps Muscle Strength and Its Relation to Lower Extremity Lean Mass

open access: yesInternational Journal of Integrated Health Sciences, 2017
Objective: To discover whether quadriceps resistance exercise could increase quadriceps strength as well as its relation to lower extremity lean mass. Methods: This study was a pre- and post- experimental study in which 36 participants with knee OA ...

Body Cell Mass and Lean Body Mass in the Growing Beagle

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1973
SummaryThe lean body mass (LBM) was considered equivalent to fat-free wet weight (FFWW), and it decreased from 97% of body weight at birth to 85% when the pups were 1.5 mo old, after which it did n...

Body Fat Loss Automatically Reduces Lean Mass by Changing the Fat‐Free Component of Adipose Tissue

open access: yesObesity, 2019
Fat‐free mass or lean tissue mass includes nonskeletal muscle components such as the fat‐free component of adipose tissue fat cells. This fat‐free component of adipose tissue may need to be taken into consideration when large changes in body fat occur ...

Role of Menopausal Transition and Physical Activity in Loss of Lean and Muscle Mass: A Follow-Up Study in Middle-Aged Finnish Women

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Medicine, 2020
In midlife, women experience hormonal changes due to menopausal transition. A decrease especially in estradiol has been hypothesized to cause loss of muscle mass.

Single cis‐elements in brassinosteroid‐induced upregulated genes are insufficient to recruit both redox states of the BIL1/BZR1 DNA‐binding domain

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phytohormone brassinosteroid‐induced gene regulation by the transcription factor BIL1/BZR1 involves redox‐dependent DNA‐binding alternation and interaction with the transcription factor PIF4. The reduced BIL1/BZR1 dimer binds preferred cis‐elements, while oxidation alters its oligomerization state and disrupts DNA‐binding ability.

Influence of different sports on fat mass and lean mass in growing girls

open access: yesJournal of Sport and Health Science, 2017
Purpose: The aim of this study was to analyze and compare the effects of different sports (swimming, football, basketball, and handball) on fat mass and lean mass in prepubertal and pubertal girls. Methods: Two hundred girls (10.6 ± 1.5 years old, Tanner
