Circumferential Left Atrium Resection for Treating a Giant Left Atrium

open access: yesJournal of Cardiac Surgery, 2013
An enlarged left atrium (LA) is a major risk factor for atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after a maze operation.Between 2000 and 2009, 35 patients underwent circumferential left atrium resection (CLAR), during mitral valve surgery. All patients had continuous AF.Hospital mortalities occurred in two patients (5.7%). Postoperative bleeding occurred in

Massive left atrium thrombus [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging, 2013
The image shows a left atrium completely occupied by a giant non-homogeneous, irregularly-surfaced mass, obstructing the disc motion, mimicking severe mitral prosthetic stenosis.

Implantable Self‐Powered Systems for Electrical Stimulation Medical Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this paper, the design strategy and clinical application of ISS are discussed in depth from four aspects: the design and optimization of the energy collection module, the selection and preparation of adaptive electrode materials, the innovation of system design strategy, and the biological effect of electrical stimulation of ISS.

Removal of intra-atrial tumor thrombus of renal cell carcinoma: report of a case [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
A case of left renal cell carcinoma with a tumor thrombus extending into the vena cava and the right atrium is reported. A 49-year-old female presented with a one month history of palpitation, dyspnea, and leg edema.

THE PROGNOSTIC VALUE OF LEFT ATRIAL PEAK RESERVOIR STRAIN IN ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION IS DEPENDENT ON LEFT VENTRICULAR LONGITUDINAL FUNCTION AND LEFT ATRIAL SIZE [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background— Peak atrial longitudinal strain (PALS) during the reservoir phase has been proposed as a measure of left atrium function in a range of cardiac conditions, with the potential for added pathophysiological insight and ...

Left atrial size and contractile function in healthy dogs and dogs with chronic mitral valve disease

open access: yesPesquisa Veterinária Brasileira
: In humans, left atrial enlargement and reduced contractile functions are associated with adverse cardiovascular events and a poor prognosis in many dilatation of the left atrium occurs with the gradual evolution of chronic mitral valve disease and is ...

“Left atrial myxoma - A tumor in transit”

open access: yesAnnals of Cardiac Anaesthesia, 2019
Cardiac myxoma is the most common type of primary cardiac neoplasm. Over 70% of all cardiac myxomas originate from the left atrium (LA) and 18% from the right atrium (RA). Most myxomas present with constitutional, embolic, and obstructive manifestations.

DNA‐PKcs‐Driven YAP1 Phosphorylation and Nuclear Translocation: a Key Regulator of Ferroptosis in Hyperglycemia‐Induced Cardiac Dysfunction in Type 1 Diabetes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In the context of chronic hyperglycemia, a DDR is initiated, leading to the pathological activation of DNA‐PKcs in the diabetic heart. This activated DNA‐PKcs directly interacts with and phosphorylates YAP1 at Thr226, thereby increasing the nuclear expression of YAP1.

Pyramid Network with Online Hard Example Mining for Accurate Left Atrium Segmentation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Accurately segmenting left atrium in MR volume can benefit the ablation procedure of atrial fibrillation. Traditional automated solutions often fail in relieving experts from the labor-intensive manual labeling. In this paper, we propose a deep neural network based solution for automated left atrium segmentation in gadolinium-enhanced MR volumes with ...
