‘Reservoir dogs’: The emerging zoonotic risk associated with European dog imports to the UK
Abstract Background The movement of dogs from continental Europe to the UK poses a growing public health threat due to the associated risk of disease incursions. Current legislation is insufficient to address the risks and pre‐import control measures are focused only on rabies virus and the fox tapeworm Echinococcus multilocularis. Methods We conducted

Canine antibody response to Phlebotomus perniciosus bites negatively correlates with the risk of Leishmania infantum transmission. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Phlebotomine sand flies are blood-sucking insects that can transmit Leishmania parasites. Hosts bitten by sand flies develop an immune response against sand fly salivary antigens.

First Detection and Molecular Analysis of Leishmania infantum DNA in Sand Flies of Kosovo
Phlebotomine sand flies (Diptera: Psychodidae) are the principal vectors of phleboviruses and Leishmania spp., the causative agents of leishmaniases. The Mediterranean sand fly fauna is diverse, and leishmaniasis, mainly caused by Leishmania infantum, is

Vectors and Vector‐Borne Diseases: Biology, Epidemiology and Integrated Control Strategies
ABSTRACT Vector‐Borne Diseases (VBDs), transmitted by arthropods such as mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and sandflies, represent a significant threat to global health. These diseases can be caused by a variety of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and helminths.

Proteome Profiling of Leishmania Infantum Promastigotes
ABSTRACT. A proteome analysis of the promastigote stage of the trypanosomatid parasite Leishmania infantum (MON‐1 zymodeme) is described here for the first time. Total protein extracts were prepared at early logarithmic and stationary phases of replicate axenic cultures and processed by 2D electrophoresis (pH 3–10).

Study of in vitro biological activity of thiazoles on Leishmania (Leishmania) infantum
In the prospection of possible agents against neglected diseases, thiazole compounds are presented as promising candidates and are known to have activity against trypanosomatid parasites. Thus, this work aimed to evaluate the effects of thiazole compounds on Leishmania infantum, the aetiological agent of visceral leishmaniasis.Thiazole compounds (five ...

Amblyomma sculptum showed a plasmatocyte‐dominant haemocyte profile. Beauveria bassiana increased plasmatocytes and reduced granulocytes, whereas Metarhizium robertsii did not cause significant changes. Amblyomma americanum showed a granulocyte‐dominant haemocyte profile. Beauveria bassiana reduced total haemocytes and granulocytes. B.
