Leishmania tropica Infections-Reply
Archives of Dermatology, 1977In Reply.— We appreciate Dr Long's comments and his sharing of his experience and expertise in the therapy of oriental sore. In our article we stated that "the best management of uncomplicated cases of acute cutaneous leishmaniasis ( L tropica ) may be to observe the patient and withhold treatment." Our recommendation was aimed at acute ...

Toxicity of bilirubin to Leishmania tropica promastigotes
Experimental Parasitology, 1976Abstract Treatment of Leishmania tropica promastigotes with bilirubin results in loss of viability and death of the cells. A concentration of 0.1 m M is sufficient to cause complete inhibition of growth. Bilirubin inhibits the uptake of 2-deoxy- d -glucose and l -methionine. It increases the efflux of intracellularly accumulated sugars (both free

Leishmania tropica: Uptake of methionine by promastigotes
Experimental Parasitology, 1977Abstract Promastigotes of Leishmania tropica transport methionine against a concentration gradient through a saturable system. This concentrative uptake requires metabolic energy and is sensitive to temperature and sulfhydryl reagents such as N -ethyl maleimide. Intracellular methionine exchanges with external methionine.

Leishmania tropica in Egypt: an undesirable import
Tropical Medicine & International Health, 1996SummaryCutaneous as well as visceral leishmaniasis has been previously reported in Egypt. The former clinical manifestation is attributed to Leishmania major, the latter to L. infantum. In this study, L. tropica was isolated from an Egyptian labourer returning from Saudi Arabia.

Coexistence of Leishmania tropica and Leishmania infantum in Sefrou province, Morocco
Acta Tropica, 2014Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) has been recently emerged in new foci, posing a public health problem. Increasing cases of CL have been reported during recent years in Sefrou province, a previously non-endemic area. The present study was designed for epidemiological and parasitological characterization of the disease for the first time in this area.

Thymoquinone Effect on Leishmania tropica/infantum and Leishmania-Infected Macrophages
Acta Parasitologica, 2023Leishmania is a parasitic protozoan that tries to enter and amplify within macrophages. Macrophage cells are also immune defense cells that phagocyte many microbes like bacteria, fungi, as well as parasites like Leishmania spp. However, they are unable to kill this parasite that resides in the phagosomes of contaminated macrophages and multiplies in ...

Leishmania tropica: Differences in the antigenicity of promastigotes and amastigotes
Cellular Immunology, 1985In vitro bioassays were used to compare T-cell responses induced by the intramacrophage amastigote stage and the sandfly-borne promastigote stage of Leishmania tropica. Lymph node cells from mice immunized with sonicated promastigotes or amastigotes incorporated in Freund's complete adjuvant were assayed for their ability to proliferate and to release ...

Humoral antibody response in Leishmania tropica infection
Journal of Infection, 1992A small epidemic of Leishmania tropica infection was detected in Rajasthan, India. Most cases were in the 21-25 years age group and were possibly related to outdoor activity. Nearly one third of the patients had more than five lesions, the maximum number of lesions being confined to the face, neck and extremities.

Indian kala-azar caused by Leishmania tropica
The Lancet, 1995Kala-azar, or visceral leishmaniasis, in India is generally assumed to be a result of infection with Leishmania donovani. 15 parasite isolates collected over the past 10 years from patients with classical disease were typed by monoclonal antibodies, isoenzymes, and kDNA analysis.

Notes on the Biology of Leishmania Tropica
The American Journal of Tropical Medicine, 1923The study of protozoa cultivated in artificial media has contributed in relatively small measure to our knowledge of their biology. Notwithstanding the numerous efforts made in this direction only a few protozoa have been succcessfully grown in artificial cultures in laboratories, and in many cases it has been necessary to make repeated inoculations ...
