Building momentum through networks: Bioimaging across the Americas. [PDF]
J MicroscAbstract
In September 2023, the two largest bioimaging networks in the Americas, Latin America Bioimaging (LABI) and BioImaging North America (BINA), came together during a 1‐week meeting in Mexico. This meeting provided opportunities for participants to interact closely with decision‐makers from imaging core facilities across the Americas. Alzheimers DementAbstract INTRODUCTION
Genome‐wide association studies (GWAS) are fundamental for identifying loci associated with diseases. However, they require replication in other ethnicities. METHODS
We performed GWAS on sporadic Alzheimer's disease (AD) including 539 patients and 854 controls from Argentina and Chile.Dalmasso MC, de Rojas I, Olivar N, Muchnik C, Angel B, Gloger S, Sanchez Abalos MS, Chacón MV, Aránguiz R, Orellana P, Cuesta C, Galeano P, Campanelli L, Novack GV, Martinez LE, Medel N, Lisso J, Sevillano Z, Irureta N, Castaño EM, Montrreal L, Thoenes M, Hanses C, Heilmann-Heimbach S, Kairiyama C, Mintz I, Villella I, Rueda F, Romero A, Wukitsevits N, Quiroga I, Gona C, Lambert JC, Solis P, Politis DG, Mangone CA, Gonzalez-Billault C, Boada M, Tàrraga L, Slachevsky A, Albala C, Fuentes P, Kochen S, Brusco LI, Ruiz A, Morelli L, Ramírez A. +46 moreeuropepmc +2 more sourcesNucleotide-sugar metabolism in plants: the legacy of Luis F. Leloir
Journal of Experimental Botany, 2021 Abstract This review commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to Luis F. Leloir ‘for his discovery of sugar-nucleotides and their role in the biosynthesis of carbohydrates’. He and his co-workers discovered that activated forms of simple sugars, such as UDP-glucose and UDP-galactose, are essential ...Carlos M Figueroa, John E Lunn, Alberto A Iglesias +2 moreopenaire +4 more sourcesSubstrate binding in the allosteric site mimics homotropic cooperativity in the SIS‐fold glucosamine‐6‐phosphate deaminases
Protein Science, Volume 32, Issue 6, June 2023., 2023 Abstract
Glucosamine‐6‐phosphate (GlcN6P) deaminases from Escherichia coli (EcNagBI) and Shewanella denitrificans (SdNagBII) are special examples of what constitute nonhomologous isofunctional enzymes due to their convergence, not only in catalysis, but also in cooperativity and allosteric properties.Jorge Marcos‐Viquez, Annia Rodríguez‐Hernández, Laura I. Across Latin American and Caribbean countries (LACs), the fight against dementia faces pressing challenges, such as heterogeneity, diversity, political instability, and socioeconomic disparities. These can be addressed more effectively in a collaborative setting that fosters open exchange of knowledge.Mario Alfredo Parra, Sandra Baez, Lucas Sedeño, Cecilia Gonzalez Campo, Hernando Santamaría‐García, Ivan Aprahamian, Paulo HF Bertolucci, Julian Bustin, Maria Aparecida Camargos Bicalho, Carlos Cano‐Gutierrez, Paulo Caramelli, Marcia L.
