Relationship Between Retinal Vein Occlusion and Axial Length

open access: yesKaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, 2003
This study examined whether axial length is a local risk factor for central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) and branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). The study group consisted of 40 patients with unilateral CRVO and 77 patients with unilateral BRVO.

Relationship Between Foot Length and Gestational Age in Pakistan

open access: yesGlobal Pediatric Health, 2020
Preterm births have a high risk of mortality. Therefore, knowledge of the gestational age (GA) at birth is crucial to guide the appropriate management of a newborn.

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Age-related differences in the loss and recovery of serial sarcomere number following disuse atrophy in rats

open access: yesSkeletal Muscle
Background Older adults exhibit a slower recovery of muscle mass following disuse atrophy than young adults. At a smaller scale, muscle fibre cross-sectional area (i.e., sarcomeres in parallel) exhibits this same pattern.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

The Hausdorff Dimension of Surfaces in Two-Dimensional Quantum Gravity Coupled to Ising Minimal Matter

open access: yes, 1997
Within the framework of string field theory the intrinsic Hausdorff dimension d_H of the ensemble of surfaces in two-dimensional quantum gravity has recently been claimed to be 2m for the class of unitary minimal models (p = m+1,q = m).

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Length-length, length-weight relationship and condition factor of an ecological invader, Cyprinus carpio (Linneaus, 1758) from Manasbal Lake of Kashmir Himalaya, India

open access: yesJournal of Fisheries, 2021
The common carp Cyprinus carpio is a well-known invasive species. A total of 472 specimens of C. carpio (8.6–35 cm, 10.5–1000 g) were collected from Manasbal Lake of Kashmir Himalaya for this study between March 2018 and February 2020.
