Cathepsin L proteases of the parasitic copepod, Lepeophtheirus salmonis
Aquaculture, 2012Abstract The salmon louse, Lepeophtheirus salmonis , is a parasitic copepod that feeds on the mucus, skin and blood of salmonids. We describe the identification of two complete L. salmonis cathepsin L-like gene sequences and their molecular characterisation. L. salmonis cathepsin L1 (LsCL1), is 978 base pairs in length, encoding a protein of 325

Differential Gene Expression in Atlantic Salmon Infected with Lepeophtheirus salmonis
Journal of Aquatic Animal Health, 2006Abstract Lepeophtheirus salmonis is an ectoparasitic copepod that can cause serious disease outbreaks in salmonids. Previous work has shown that Atlantic salmon Salmo salar show very little, if any, tissue response to infection, whereas less-susceptible host species exhibit strong inflammatory responses.

Treatment of Salmon Lice (Lepeophtheirus salmonis Krøyer) with Neguvon
1980Serious epizootics of salmon lice, Lepeophtheirus salmonis, have occurred in recent years in Norwegian salmonid sea farms. A bath treatment of 300 ppm Neguvon for 15 to 60 min effectively eliminates the parasite. The treatment is applied using a special floating pen enabling the same solution to be used for several fish populations.

"Sea Lice" (Lepeophtheirus) and Death of Salmon
Journal of the Fisheries Research Board of Canada, 1940In 1939 Lepeophtheirus salmonis infected salmon entering Moser river, Nova Scotia. Some fish had much of skin in occipital region removed and died some time after entering fresh water. It is suggested that these copepods cause the condition on the top of the salmon's head known as "white spot."

Early stages ofLepeophtheirus salmonis(Copepoda, Caligidae)
Sarsia, 1977Abstract Adult Lepeophtheirus salmonis (Kroyer) were obtained from cultured salmon, Salmo salar L. The morphology of the first and second nauplius is similar to that of other caligid copepods previously described. General behaviour of the early free-living larval stages was also studied.
