A fatal poisoning from an amatoxin containing Lepiota

The mushroom Lepiota josserandii Bon and Boif. has been identified as the cause of an unintentional, fatal intoxication in New York. The course of the symptoms, beginning with a 9 h latent period, was similar to what would be expected in a case of Amanita phalloides-type intoxication.

A new species of Lepiota from China

In this report we describe the three species in Lepiota sect. Lepiota occurring in tropical China. Lepiota attenuata is a new species and is characterized by a pileus with brownish yellow squamules and radially sulcate striate margin, penguin-shaped spores that are distinctively narrowed toward the apex and inflated submoniliform or catenulate elements

Noteworthy Species of Lepiota and Lactaria

The species of Lepiota described in this article were collected under Monterey Cypress trees (Cupressus macrocarpa) on Point Lobos which is located south of Carmel Bay in Monterey Co., California. My primary purpose in going to Point Lobos was to determine what species of Russula or Lactaria might be found growing in this habitat.

Lepiota brunneolilacea, Star Dapperling

Lepiota brunneolilacea is a fairly large Lepiota species with a minutely scaly, vinaceous brown to lilac brown pileus of 30-75 mm and a sturdy stipe (20-80 x 8-15 mm) with a floccose annulus. It is one of the very few Lepiota species growing in dunes near the sea-coast, the stipe base often deeply buried in sand.
