Endothelial Cell Proteins as Biomarkers in Susac Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Susac syndrome (SS) is a rare CD8+ T cell–mediated microangiopathy affecting the brain, retina, and auditory labyrinth. Endothelial injury is thought to be a central mechanism; however, no circulating disease biomarkers are known. We performed targeted proteomic profiling to identify circulating endothelial‐associated proteins as ...

Glioma with Leptomeningeal Spread Mimics Chronic Meningoencephalitis in a Young Adult

open access: yesCase Reports in Neurology, 2021
The most malignant type of intrinsic brain tumor is glioblastoma (WHO grade IV). Primary leptomeningeal spread is rare and leads to a variety of differential considerations, as there is no typical clinical or imaging pattern.

Immunohistochemical staining for Aβ of leptomeninges, leptomeningeal, and cortical blood vessels.

open access: yes, 2018
(A) Extensive Aβ deposition in leptomeninges and leptomeningeal blood vessels and their distal branches; APP21 (B) and WT (C) rats did not have Aβ deposits in leptomeningeal or cortical blood vessels.

Diffuse MRI Edema Predicts Relapse in Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy–Related Inflammation

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To identify MRI predictors of relapse and quantify relapse and mortality risk in cerebral amyloid angiopathy–related inflammation (CAA‐RI). A secondary objective was to assess the association between mycophenolate mofetil use and relapse risk. Methods We performed a retrospective cohort study of 36 patients with CAA‐RI treated at the

Suprasellar pilocytic astrocytoma with leptomeningeal dissemination

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Radiology
Leptomeningeal dissemination is a rare manifestation of pilocytic astrocytoma. It may occur with higher-grade tumours like medulloblastoma, ependymoma and high-grade glioma, but is extremely rare with low-grade glioma.

Phase II study of ipilimumab and nivolumab in leptomeningeal carcinomatosis

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Leptomeningeal metastases from solid tumors are a rare complication with a very poor prognosis. Here the authors report the efficacy and safety of combined ipilimumab and nivolumab in patients with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis.

CT of diffuse leptomeningeal metastasis from primary extracerebral neuroblastoma

open access: yes, 1993
Leptomeningeal metastasis due to primary extracerebral neuroblastoma is rare. Diffuse leptomeningeal contrast enhancement resulting from this condition has been demonstrated only in a recent case report utilizing cranial CT imaging.

Investigation of Complement Activation and Cytokine Signatures in AQP4+ NMOSD, MOGAD, and MS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Aquaporin‐4‐IgG seropositive neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (AQP4+ NMOSD), myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody‐associated disease (MOGAD), and multiple sclerosis (MS) are pathophysiologically distinct neuroinflammatory disorders. Complement activation is a major mechanism of injury in AQP4+ NMOSD, whereas its role in

A pilot study of bevacizumab combined with etoposide and cisplatin in breast cancer patients with leptomeningeal carcinomatosis

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Elevated vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) was associated with poor prognosis in leptomeningeal carcinomatosis and anti-angiogenic therapy was found to prolong the survival of mice in preclinical studies.

Tau Aggregate Imaging and Transcriptomics of Alzheimer's Disease Brain at Different Stages of Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The protein aggregates and gene expression in the middle temporal gyrus (MTG) and somatosensory cortex (SOM) of the postmortem brains of 13 Alzheimer's disease patients were studied in detail, revealing that small hyperphosphorylated tau aggregates increase with Braak stage driven by microglial inflammation.
