Advances in Diagnosis and Treatment for Leptomeningeal Disease in Melanoma

Current Oncology Reports, 2022
Melanoma has one of the highest incidences of causing leptomeningeal disease (LMD) among solid tumors. LMD patients have very poor prognosis with a dismal survival despite aggressive management. In this article, we review the current approaches in the management of patients with LMD secondary to melanoma, including updates in diagnosis, treatment, up ...

Spinal Leptomeningeal Neoplastic Disease

European Neurology, 2008
Out of 16 patients, spinal leptomeningeal neoplastic disease was diagnosed by MRI in 4 patients, myelography in 14 patients and CT myelography in 12 cases. MR was superior to myelography in 2 patients, in another 2 patients MRI was equally diagnostic. The cerebrospinal fluid of every patient contained malignant cells.

The Potential of Liquorpheresis to Treat Leptomeningeal Disease

World Neurosurgery
Leptomeningeal disease (LMD) is a devastating sequela of many cancers, with an extremely poor prognosis. Barriers to improving outcomes are related to the inability of many traditional therapies to effectively reach the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) space within the central nervous system.

Focal leptomeningeal vascular anomalies on brain MRI: A mimic of leptomeningeal metastatic disease

Neuro-Oncology Practice
Abstract Background The diagnosis of leptomeningeal metastatic disease has major prognostic and therapeutic implications. We report 13 patients with a radiologically distinct kind of focal, enhancing leptomeningeal lesion on brain MRI that mimics leptomeningeal metastatic disease.

Castleman's disease confined to the leptomeninges.

Annals of clinical and laboratory science, 2000
We report a rare case of the plasma cell variant of Castleman's disease confined to the leptomeninges in a 42-year-old female. Flow cytometry demonstrated a minor monoclonal kappa light chain population, and conventional Southern blotting confirmed clonal rearrangement of the J(H) immunoglobulin heavy-chain gene.
