Ethanol and leucine oxidation—I. Leucine oxidation by the rat in vivo

International Journal of Biochemistry, 1985
The effect of ethanol upon the oxidation of leucine by the rat in vivo was determined. The rate of leucine oxidation was not significantly altered by chronic administration of ethanol (20% v/v solution as drinking water for 28 days). Ethanol administered acutely (8 g kg 0.73) significantly decreased leucine oxidation by the rat in vivo.

Surface properties of aqueous amino acid solutions II. Leucine-leucine hydrochloride and leucine-sodium leucinate mixtures.

Journal of colloid and interface science, 2006
To understand the distinction between the effects of zwitterionic, anionic, and cationic l-leucine upon adsorption and lateral interactions at air/water surface, the surface tensions of aqueous solutions of l-leucine-l-leucine hydrochloride and l-leucine-sodium l-leucinate mixtures were measured as a function of concentration and composition at 25 ...

Increased serum leucine, leucine-37 levels in psoriasis: Positive and negative feedback loops of leucine, leucine-37 and pro- or anti-inflammatory cytokines

Human Immunology, 2010
Expression of leucine, leucine-37 (LL-37) is enhanced in keratinocytes of skin lesions with psoriasis. We examined serum LL-37 levels in patients with psoriasis vulgaris. Serum LL-37 levels in patients were higher than in normal controls, and were reduced after cyclosporine A treatment.

Leucine-Induced Hypoglycemia

New England Journal of Medicine, 1965
In 1956 Cochrane et al.1 first reported that the hypoglycemia of some infants with "idiopathic familial hypoglycemia" was sharply accentuated by the oral administration of L-leucine. Their observation has been confirmed many times,2,3 although most investigators have found that only one quarter to one third of children with "idiopathic hypoglycemia ...

Structure of the leucine zipper

Current Biology, 1992
In the basic-region leucine-zipper domain, flexible DNA-binding arms are juxtaposed by a two-stranded, parallel coiled-coil motif called the leucine zipper. Genetic, physical and structural studies of the leucine zipper identify interactions that help determine the stability and specificity of dimerization and DNA binding.

Enhanced Production of Leucine–Leucine Dipeptide by Whole-Cell Catalysis

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry
The Leucine-Leucine dipeptide (Leu-Leu) is recognized for its ability to enhance muscle growth, promote recovery, and reduce fatigue, demonstrating therapeutic potential for conditions such as sarcopenia and metabolic disorders. Recent research in the biosynthesis of the Leu-Leu has gained increasing attention; however, its production is hampered by ...

Leucine and sport

Arbor Clinical Nutrition Updates, 2007
In a nutshellExercise increases oxidation of amino acids such as leucine. On the other hand, leucine is a powerful mediator of protein synthesis in muscle, promoting improved function, reduced fatigue and enhanced recovery from exertion. There is RCT evidence that leucine improves sports performance, particularly for endurance activity, but more ...
