Leucine aminopeptase in the spleen

Experientia, 1962

Structure of the leucine zipper

Current Biology, 1992
In the basic-region leucine-zipper domain, flexible DNA-binding arms are juxtaposed by a two-stranded, parallel coiled-coil motif called the leucine zipper. Genetic, physical and structural studies of the leucine zipper identify interactions that help determine the stability and specificity of dimerization and DNA binding.

Self-Assembly of Phenylalanine-Leucine, Leucine-Phenylalanine, and Cyclo(-leucine-phenylalanine) Dipeptides through Simulations and Experiments

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2023
For over two decades, peptide self-assembly has been the focus of attention and a great source of inspiration for biomedical and nanotechnological applications. The resulting peptide nanostructures and their properties are closely related to the information encoded within each peptide building block, their sequence, and their modes of self-organization.

Leucine-Induced Hypoglycemia

Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1967
COCHRAN ET AL 1 in 1956 described a clinical condition characterized by hypoglycemic convulsions which were aggravated by a high protein diet. They noted that the leucine in the diet of these patients precipitated the episodes of hypoglycemia, whereas this did not occur when leucine was administered to unaffected individuals.

Effects of leucine, isoleucine, or threonine infusion on leucine metabolism in humans

American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism, 1987
Leucine and/or its alpha-keto acid, alpha-ketoisocaproate (KIC), have been reported to spare protein in humans. To determine whether specific amino acid infusions affect whole-body protein metabolism as estimated by changes in leucine flux and oxidation, five groups of normal subjects were infused with saline, leucine (0.47 and 0.94 mumol . kg-1 . min-

Leucines on a roll

Nature Structural Biology, 1996
Several proteins have recently been found to consist of repetitive structural units in a superhelical arrangement. The structure of the leucine-rich repeat variant protein represents an unexpected addition to the list of such proteins, with the repetitive unit consisting of antiparallel alpha- and 3(10)-helices.

Glucocorticosteroids increase leucine oxidation and impair leucine balance in humans

American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism, 1989
High-dose glucocorticoid treatment results in protein wasting. To determine whether such therapy affects leucine oxidation in the postabsorptive state and the disposal of dietary amino acids, eight normal subjects were studied twice in random order, once after 5 days of prednisone (20 mg three times daily) and on a second occasion without prednisone as

Leucine-Induced Hypoglycemia

New England Journal of Medicine, 1965
In 1956 Cochrane et al.1 first reported that the hypoglycemia of some infants with "idiopathic familial hypoglycemia" was sharply accentuated by the oral administration of L-leucine. Their observation has been confirmed many times,2,3 although most investigators have found that only one quarter to one third of children with "idiopathic hypoglycemia ...

Ethanol and leucine oxidation—I. Leucine oxidation by the rat in vivo

International Journal of Biochemistry, 1985
The effect of ethanol upon the oxidation of leucine by the rat in vivo was determined. The rate of leucine oxidation was not significantly altered by chronic administration of ethanol (20% v/v solution as drinking water for 28 days). Ethanol administered acutely (8 g kg 0.73) significantly decreased leucine oxidation by the rat in vivo.

Increased serum leucine, leucine-37 levels in psoriasis: Positive and negative feedback loops of leucine, leucine-37 and pro- or anti-inflammatory cytokines

Human Immunology, 2010
Expression of leucine, leucine-37 (LL-37) is enhanced in keratinocytes of skin lesions with psoriasis. We examined serum LL-37 levels in patients with psoriasis vulgaris. Serum LL-37 levels in patients were higher than in normal controls, and were reduced after cyclosporine A treatment.
