ARE LEUCOCYTOZOON SAKHAROFFI SAMBON AND LEUCOCYTOZOON BERESTNEFFI SAMBON SYNONYMOUS?
The size of the gametocytes of a leucocytozoon in young crows shows a wide variation in birds obtained in different localities. The host cell nucleus of infected cells may be pushed to one side, almost surround the parasite, or be intermediate between these extremes.

We describe Leucocytozoon polynuclearis n. sp. (Haemosporida: Leucocytozoidae) from two North American woodpeckers, the northern flicker (Colaptes auratus Linnaeus) and white-headed woodpecker (Dryobates albolarvatus Boie, 1826), based on the morphology ...

High prevalence of Leucocytozoon parasites in fresh water breeding gulls [PDF]
Seabirds are regarded as a group of species with relatively low levels or even complete lack of blood parasites. We used PCR to amplify a DNA fragment from the cytochrome b gene of the parasites to search for infections of the genera Plasmodium ...

Gametocytogenesis of Leucocytozoon Smithi
Journal of Eukaryotic Microbiology, 1993ABSTRACT. Development of young gamelocytes of Leucocytozoon smithi into morphologically mature forms was studied using electron microscopy. Gametocytogenesis began on day seven post inoculation when merozoites, released from ruptured hepatic schizonts, developed into gametocytes within mononuclear phagocytes or leukocytes (monocytes or lymphocytes). Early Schizonts of Leucocytozoon caulleryi
The Journal of Parasitology, 1990Sporozoites of Leucocytozoon caulleryi were inoculated intravenously into 26-day-old specific pathogen-free chickens. Six days after inoculation, early schizonts were detected in lung, spleen, and thymus. They existed separately and were spherical or ovoid, 30-35 microns in diameter, and had well defined walls.
