Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress Amplifies Cytokine Responses in Astrocytes via a PERK/eIF2α/JAK1 Signaling Axis

open access: yesGlia, EarlyView.
ER stress amplifies TNF‐α, OSM, and IL‐1β responses in astrocytes. PERK and JAK1 signaling are required for the synergistic interaction between ER stress and inflammatory cytokines. Translational suppression attenuates the synthesis of the negative feedback regulators IκBα and SOCS3.

Dysregulation of Monounsaturated Fatty Acids is Related to α‐Synuclein in Multiple System Atrophy

open access: yesMovement Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Multiple system atrophy (MSA) is a neurodegenerative disease pathologically characterized by the presence of glial cytoplasmic inclusions (GCI) composed of α‐synuclein aggregates. In Parkinson's disease, increases in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) in phospholipid membranes promote α‐synuclein binding, aggregation, and toxicity ...

A Focus on Natural Autophagy Modulators as Potential Host‐Directed Weapons Against Emerging and Re‐Emerging Viruses

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Autophagy is a highly conserved intracellular process involved in maintaining homeostasis and in the degradation of damaged organelles and external pathogens. Nature provides complex and varied reservoirs of scaffolds and chemical entities that may have a pivotal role in the search for new therapeutic leads.

Expression of interleukin 2 receptors on activated human B cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
Using anti-Tac, a monoclonal anti-interleukin 2 (IL-2) receptor antibody, we have explored the possibility that certain activated B cells display receptors for IL-2.

Near‐Infrared‐Triggered Nanodroplets for Imaging‐Guided Macrophage‐Mediated Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
Schematic illustration of the Nanodroplets and their theranostics application–The engineered nanodroplets integrate a multifunctional design, encapsulating the immunostimulant resiquimod (R848), indocyanine green (ICG), and volatile perfluoropentane (PFP), within a biocompatible double‐emulsion structure.

Rapid and Sensitive Detection of RNA Viruses through Imaging of Marker Molecules Derived from Designed Circular DNA Probes

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
This study presents a rapid and sensitive virus detection method that employs imaging of virus‐specific DNA markers. Utilizing specially designed single‐stranded circular DNA probes, this method captures RNA fragments from RNase‐digested viral genomes during the reverse transcriptase‐based reaction, resulting in double‐stranded markers that are ...

Enzootic bovine leucosis - a case report

open access: yesBioscience Journal, 2012
Enzootic bovine leucosis is an infectious disease of cattle caused by the bovine leukemia virus that results in lymphoma within target tissues. Cattle might demonstrate four clinicopathological age-related manifestations of the disease: juvenile, adult ...

Hamster leukemia virus: lack of endogenous DNA synthesis and unique structure of its DNA polymerase [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
Infectious hamster leukemia virus (HaLV) contains a DNA polymerase different from those of murine and avian viruses. No endogenous reaction directed by the 60 to 70S RNA of HaLV could be demonstrated in detergenttreated HaLV virions, nor could the ...

Nanomedicine for Oral Delivery: Strategies to Overcome the Biological Barriers

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
Oral delivery is a preferred administration route for many clinical applications, valued for its strong patient compliance. In this review, how nanoparticles are engineered and deployed to overcome the gastrointestinal barriers that impede clinical translation of oral delivery formulations is examined.

Post-translational processing of the glycoproteins of lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
Intracellular events in the synthesis, glycosylation, and transport of the lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV) glycoproteins have been examined. We have shown by N-glycanase digestion that LCMV strain Arm-4 bears five oligosaccharides on GP-1 and ...
