Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL)-producing Staphylococcus aureus is associated with a broad spectrum of diseases, ranging from common uncomplicated soft tissue infections to severe diseases such as complicated soft tissue infections, extensive bone and joint infections, and necrotising pneumonia.
