Binding of pseudomonal leukocidin to rabbit polymorphonuclear leukocytes [PDF]
The leukocytotoxic toxin pseudomonal leukocidin, produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, was radioiodinated with chloramine-T reagent. Binding of [125I]leukocidin to rabbit polymorphonuclear leukocytes was found to be concentration dependent at 37 degrees C.

Molecular mechanism of leukocidin GH–integrin CD11b/CD18 recognition and species specificity
Significance Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most virulent bacterial pathogens and, in particular, has the richest repertoire of cytotoxins: A single bacterium can secrete 6 different β-barrel pore-forming toxins, with different cell type and species

Prevalence of Genes Encoding Bi-Component Leukocidins among Clinical Isolates of Methicillin–Resistant Staphylococcus aureus [PDF]
Background: Staphylococcus aureus has been recognized as a major human pathogen and is the major cause of nosocomial infections. Gamma-toxin, leukocidin and other bi-component toxins are a family of proteins encoded by the hlg and luk-PV, respectively ...

Prevalence of Panton-valentine gene in Staphylococcus aureus isolated from clinical samples and healthy carriers in Gorgan city, north of Iran [PDF]
Aim. Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a nosocomial and community acquired pathogen. S. aureus is a pathogen that causes several types of disease from skin infections to systemic diseases that is because of having several virulence factors such as ...

The cell envelope of Staphylococcus aureus selectively controls the sorting of virulence factors
The pathogen Staphylococcus aureus releases several pore-forming toxins, termed leukocidins, that kill immune cells. Here, Zheng et al. show that the retention of a leukocidin on bacterial cells and its release are modulated by lipoteichoic acid and a ...

ABSTRACT Introduction The emergence of methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus species (MRS) poses a growing threat to both human and veterinary health. Methods We performed a comparative genomic characterisation of 49 methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus isolates collected from humans, dogs, and cats in a veterinary hospital from Central Chile.

Diverse immunological roles of liver‐resident immune cells in liver diseases
Based on their origin and functional characteristics, LRICs can be classified into four categories. These cells differ in the focus of their immune functions in liver diseases, yet all exhibit the characteristic of functional bidirectionality.
