Panton-Valentine Leukocidin in Necrotizing Pneumonia: A Case Report

open access: yesCureus
Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL)-producing Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a rare but clinically significant cause of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). This toxin leads to extensive tissue destruction and severe inflammation, often progressing to necrotizing pneumonia, septic shock, and multiorgan failure, representing a challenge in medical ...

Host Adaptation of Staphylococcal Leukocidins

open access: yes, 2016
Staphylococcus aureus is a human and animal pathogen of global importance and has the capacity to cause disease in distinct host populations, using a large arsenal of secreted proteins to evade the host immune response. Amongst the immune evasion proteins of S. aureus, secreted cytotoxins play a preeminent role in the pathogenesis of disease.
