SummaryPolymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) isolated from the blood of bovines which do not react with an influx of cells into the milk upon intramammary administration of low doses of endotoxin (Group II), show a diminished chemotactic activityin vitroas compared to PMN of bovines which do respond to intramammary endotoxin administration (Group I; 8 ...

Production of immunoreactive growth hormone by mononuclear leukocytes
The FASEB Journal, 1988In the present study, we evaluated whether mononuclear leukocytes could synthesize and secrete growth hormone (GH) in vitro. By using RNA slot blot analysis, we detected maximum spontaneous levels of specific GH mRNA in the cytoplasm of rat leukocytes after a 4‐h incubation.

Platelet aggregating substance from mononuclear leukocytes
Prostaglandins, Leukotrienes and Medicine, 1986Human peripheral blood mononuclear leukocytes (ML) in suspension stimulated with arachidonic acid (AA) were able to induce platelet aggregation. Shape change followed by first and second wave aggregation was the pattern of the platelet response. ML not treated with AA did not induce platelet aggregation nor did AA done at the concentration employed ...

C5a: A Chemotactic Factor for Mononuclear Leukocytes
The Journal of Immunology, 1971Abstract Cleavage of guinea pig C5 results in the release of a biologically active fragmentation product (C5a) which enhances vascular permeability, contracts smooth muscle and is chemotactic for guinea pig and rabbit polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs).

AbstractThe production of interleukin‐I (IL‐I) and tumor necrosis factor (TNF) by tumor‐associated mononuclear leukocytes (TAML) and peripheral mononuclear leukocytes (PBML) from 9 otherwise untreated patients with a variety of malignancies (lung, sarcoma, stomach, renal) was assessed.

Determination of beta adrenoceptor density on rabbit mononuclear leukocytes
Journal of Pharmacological Methods, 1988The purpose of the present study was to devise a technique for the isolation of a relatively homogeneous mononuclear leukocyte (MNL) preparation from rabbit whole blood and determine the density and affinity of beta-adrenoceptors on MNL. A modified method based upon that by Böyum was developed to maximize isolation of MNL from red blood cells (RBC ...

An in vitro test able to demonstrate phytohemagglutinin (PHA)-induced migration inhibition of human peripheral blood leukocytes was investigated. The migration inhibition was demonstrated by the agarose migration technique. Purified mononuclear leukocytes which had been incubated for 30 min with PHA, then washed and added to non-separated leukocytes ...

Effects of endothelial cells and mononuclear leukocytes on platelet aggregation
Haematologia, 2000Although normal vascular endothelium prevents adhesion and aggregation of platelets by the release of nitric oxide (NO) and prostacyclin, the endothelium exposed to oxidized low density lipoprotein (LDL) may be damaged, damage that may include a reduction in its secretory capacity.

The production of growth hormone by subpopulations of rat mononuclear leukocytes
Cellular Immunology, 1991In this study we analyzed the production of GH mRNA and secretion of GH by purified subpopulations of rat lymphoid cells. The data demonstrate that mononuclear leukocytes from various tissues, including spleen, thymus, bone marrow, Peyer's patches, and peripheral blood, all have the ability to produce GH mRNA and secrete GH.

Corticosteroid receptors and lymphocyte subsets in mononuclear leukocytes in aging
American Journal of Physiology-Endocrinology and Metabolism, 1992Plasma cortisol and aldosterone levels and number of related receptors in mononuclear leukocytes were measured in 49 healthy aged subjects (62-97 yr) and in 21 adult controls (21-50 yr). In all subjects, in addition, lymphocyte subsets were determined as an index of corticosteroid action.
